The Acts of the Apostles
Chapter 23
Vs.1 Paul speaks to the group of Jewish leaders. He tells them that he has lived before the Lord knowing in his heart that he was obeying God and doing the right thing.
Vs. 2 The high in the group told the men near Paul to slap Paul’s face. Paul said, “God will slap you. What kind of judge are you to have me slapped?”
Vs. 3 The men standing near Paul said, “Is that a way to talk to the high Priest?”
Vs. 4 Paul said that he did not realize that he was the high priest.
Vs. 5 Paul began to see that some of the men in the group were Sadducees and some were Pharisees. These two groups believed differently about resurrection from the dead.
Vs. 6 So Paul said, “I am on trial because I believed in the resurrection of the dead.”
Vs.7-10 The two groups began arguing with each other. Finally, the soldiers took Paul back to the fort.
Vs. 11 That night God spoke to Paul He told him that Paul would preach the Good News about Jesus in Rome.
Vs. 12-22 Some of the Jews got together 40 of them they said they would not eat or drink until they had killed Paul. They told the men in charge of Paul that he should come before the Jewish leaders again so they could talk some more. These 40 men planned to take Paul away when they were bringing him to the leaders.
Vs. 13-19 Paul’s nephew heard about their plan. He told the leader of the soldiers.
Vs. 20-35 Secretly in the night, the leader of the soldiers had 470 men guard Paul and they took him to the city where the Governor Felix was.
