Ephesians Chp 4 Vs. 1-32
5689. Vs. 1-3 Paul says he is a “prisoner” of the Lord.
He is in prison in Rome as he writes this letter to the Christian believers in Ephesus. (Ephesus is in the country called Turkey now.)
Paul tells the people that he wants them to walk worthy of the vocation (job, work,) to which they are called.
Meaning—they are to live in a way that shows they are a Christian.
They have been called by God to follow Jesus’ teachings—-and to tell others about Jesus.
Paul said they should do this with l____________________, forbearing one another in love. (To endure, put up with, be patient with).
Vs. 3 Endeavoring to (trying to)—-keep everyone in u________ (working together)— in p_____________.
5690. Vs. 4 There is one b__________, and one s____________, —-you are called in one hope.
5691. Vs. 5 One L____________, one f_____________, one
b__________________.
5692. One G_______, and F______________ of us all.
Who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
5693. Vs. 7 To every one of us —-is given g______________ according to the measure that Christ gives.
Meaning—–each one of us has been given a gift—to minister to others. Usually, we think of “spiritual gifts” as preachers, teachers, prophets, those who have a healing ministry etc.
There are also people who seem to have a special way about them to minister in other ways—-some seem to know just when and how to help, some know just how to be friendly and encourage others, etc. —-this is their way to minister.
Christ —who knows us so well—-he has given to each one —-
a gift for us to use to minister to others.
Vs. 8-10 Jesus said—When Jesus came alive again after his death on the cross—-Jesus went down to “Hades” or “Sheol” .
“Hades”—”Sheol” was a place where the Old Testament believers went when they died. It was a special waiting place.
After Jesus died on the cross—paid the death punishment for sin—-conquered (won over) death—defeated Satan—-Jesus went down to “Hades” and led those believers up to heaven.
In a way —those believers had been held as “captives” in Hades—-waiting for Jesus to defeat Satan on the cross —-and defeat death by coming alive again.
Jesus led these “captives” up to heaven.
5694. Vs. 11 Jesus gave some people “gifts” to be apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers,—-
Vs. 12 For the work of m_______________—for ed______________ (building up, educating) the body of Christ.
5695. Vs. 13 Until we all come in the unity of f____________ and of the k_____________________ of the Son of God.
That we become a p______________ man —until we are completely grown spiritually—-and measure up in the fullness of Christ.
5696. Vs. 14 So that you are no more c_______________—allowing your selves to go this way—then that way—-being influenced to believe every teaching you hear—-by men who deceive people by things they teach.
5697. Vs. 15 But speak t______________ in love, so that you
grow up in Him –Christ —who is the “Head” of all things.
Vs. 16 (The church of believers) are one body. This “body” has many parts. All the “parts” —everyone needs to work together as one body—so that all goes well and people grow spiritually in the Lord.
5698. Vs. 17-18 Do not walk as the other unbelieving Gentiles walk—-proud in mind—-but their understanding is d_______________.
They are not friends of God. The b_________________ of their heart—-makes them ignorant of God.
5699. Vs. 19 They are past feeling and have given themselves to
l________________________ (lust of sexual things)—-and they do all kinds of uncleanness with greed.
5700. Vs. 20 You have not l_________________ this from Christ.
Vs. 21-22 You have learned of Christ and have been taught by him.
So put away–put off— the things you did as an unbeliever—”the old man”—”the old person you used to be”—-who was dirty with sinful lust.
5701. Vs. 23 Be r____________________ (made new) in your mind.
5702. Vs. 24 Put on the n__________ man——which God has made you in r_________________ and true __________________.
5703. Vs. 25 Put away l_______________—speak the t_____________ to every man.
5704 Vs. 26 You can be angry—but do not s_____.
(There are times when we have every reason and right to be angry with something. But that anger needs to be controlled. We are not to let that anger take us into doing or saying—-sinful, mean, hurtful things.)
Do not let the sun go down upon your w_______________.
(Meaning—do not go to bed angry with someone. Get over the anger, talk to the person and try to make peace, do not let anger go on and on.)
5705 Vs. 27 Do not give place to the devil.
(Meaning–the devil will use anger to pull you into doing sin—or doing something that is not what a Christian should do.
Do not allow Satan to use your anger to pull you into doing a sin.
Control your anger. Get over it quickly.)
5706. Vs. 28 Do not steal. That person should work—to earn money. Then he may have enough money to help others.
5707. Vs. 29 Do not let corrupt (bad, dirty, mean) c_________________ (words, talk) come out of your mouth.
Say words that help, that build up, that encourage,—so you edify –build up, encourage others—this is a way to minister to them.
5708. Vs. 30 G______________ not the Holy Spirit.
(Do not make the Holy Spirit sad—by what you do or say—or by an attitude you have—or by pushing the Holy Spirit away —when He tries to speak to you.)
Because—it is the Holy Spirit that “seals” us—keeps us safe,
keeps us on the right path until we make it to heaven.)
5709. Vs. 31 Put away—all kinds of b__________________, w_____________, and a____________, c_____________ (arguing, fighting) and evil s_________________;
5710. Vs. 32 Be k____________ to one another, t____________________, f______________________ one another—-even as Christ has f___________________ you.
