John     Chp. 3      Vs.22-36

Vs. 22 Jesus went to the land (area) called Judea.
His disciples were with him.

(This verse adds—”and baptized”—-it makes it seem that Jesus was baptizing people.

But in Chp. 4 Vs. 2—–it says that “Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples.)’’

The disciples were baptizing people.

Vs. 23 John the Baptist was in a place called Aenon near to Salim—–because there was a lot of water there and he was baptizing people.

Vs. 24 (John had not yet been put in prison by the Roman ruler.)

Vs. 25 Some of those people following John—had questions about the Jewish custom of cleansing.

Vs. 26 They said: The man on the other side of the Jordon river—-the one you said was the Messiah—is also baptizing people. Everyone is going over there to them.

(It was Jesus’ disciples who were doing the baptizing.)

Vs. 27 John said—God gives to each man what he is to do.

You know that I said—that I am not the Messiah. I was sent before him to prepare the way for him.

Jesus is like a “bridegroom”. I am the bridegroom’s friend. I am happy for his success.

Vs. 30 He will become greater and greater and I will become less and less.

Vs. 31 He that comes from above—-is greater than anyone else.

I am of the earth. I speak of earthly things.

Vs 32 He is from heaven. He tells what he has seen and heard.

But it seems that no one is receiving and believing what he says.

Vs 33 Those who believe him—will find that God is true.

Vs. 34 God has sent him and he speaks the words of God.
God’s spirit on him is not limited—he is full of God’s spirit.

Vs. 35 God the Father loves the Son—-and has given all things into his hands.

Vs. 36 The person who believes on the Son—has everlasting life.

The person who does not believe on the Son—will not have everlasting life—
and the anger of God will be on him—( because of the person‘s sin).

John        Chp. 3    Vs.22-36

1. Some people came to John the Baptist to tell him that —on the other side of the river—Jesus’ disciples were baptizing more people than John was.

They thought that John would be jealous.

What did John tell them about himself and Jesus?

2. Vs. 36 Is a very important verse. It says that he who has the ______________ has _____________________ life, but he who has not the ____________ has not _______________.

(That means—there is no other “god”—or person—who can give us eternal life.)
