Galatians Chp 5 Vs. 1-26

5620. (Paul is talking about Christians having to obey the Old Testament laws.
Some Jewish preachers have been going to the churches Paul started—-and they are telling the Christian men that they have to be circumcised.

Most of these men are Gentile (non-Jewish) and have not be circumcised.

Paul told them that as Christians we are no longer under the Old Testament

(The words —testament –meaning covenant or promise or legal agreement).

Since Christ came—we are under a New Testament—a new agreement)—one of “faith” not works.

It is our “faith” in Christ that brings salvation and forgiveness of sins.

Paul says in verse 1—-Stand fast (steady, firm) in the l___________ (freedom)—where Christ has made us free.

Do not be entangled (tied up) again with the yoke of b_________________.

5621. Vs. 2 Paul said—If you insist or demand that you have to be circumcised—-then there in no p_____________ (advantage, benefit) that Christ forgives us because of our faith in him.

5622. Vs. 3 If a man thinks he must be circumcised to be forgiven of his sins—-then he must obey all the laws and not just that one.

Vs. 4 Then believing—having faith— in Christ does no good.

If you are justified (said to be just and right) by obey the law—–then you have no need of g_______________. (mercy, forgiveness)

5623. Vs. 5 Through the s_______________ we hope for

5624. Vs. 6 In Jesus Christ—circumcision has no value—-and not to be circumcised does not matter—-what matters is ____________
which works by l____________.

5625. Vs. 7, 8 You were doing well in your faith—-what has happened to make you stop believing the truth we preached?

This message that those preachers—- preached to you—- is not of Christ who called you to follow him.

Vs.9 A little l_________________ goes through and influences the whole lump. (leaven —yeast—–a little yeast in the batter —-goes through all of the batter—-then all of the batter has yeast in it.)

So with their church of believers—–this “yeast” of saying you must be circumcised to be a Christian—-has affected and influenced all of the group—and now they are all in confusion about what is right.

5626. Vs. 10 I feel confident that you will ignore those preachers and put them away from you and let them be judged by God for what they are preaching.

Vs. 11 I ask you—if I am preaching that you must be circumcised——then why are the Jewish leaders persecuting (hurting) me ?

And if I am preaching circumcision—-then those Jewish leaders would not be offended (made angry). It is the message of faith and the cross that makes them angry.

Vs. 12 (Circumcision is the cutting of the skin—flesh.) Paul says of those preachers—-I would like to see them “cut” off.

Vs. 13 Paul told them—you have been called to l_____________.

Not to use liberty (freedom) to sin and do wrong—or to give in to selfish desires—-but with l___________ — s_______________ others.

5627. Vs. 14 All of the 10 Commandments can be obeyed in this one rule—You shall l___________ your neighbor as you love y_________________.

If you do to everyone—-the way you want them to do to you—you will be keeping all the 10 Commandments.

The 10 Commandments are about giving to God—- respect and honor and love, —-and giving parents respect and honor, —-and not doing bad things or mean things to other people.

If you do to every one like you want to happen to you—-then you will give everyone respect and honor—and not do them hurt or harm. And you will be keeping the 10 Commandments.

5628. Vs. 15 But if you b_________ and d_____________ (destroy)—one another—-you will consume (destroy) each other.

Bite–consume—-devour—eat up—-the people were saying mean things to each other in their arguing about this.

Paul was afraid that in their mean words to each other—-they would destroy their group of believers and the church group would be no more.

5629. Vs. 16 Paul said: Walk in the s_________________ and you will not be filled with the lust (desire) of the f_____________.

If we choose the Holy Spirit’s way of doing things and speaking—-we will not be doing things that are of the flesh—selfish, angry, etc.

5630. Vs. 17 The flesh goes against the s______________ and the spirit goes against the f_______________.

The flesh will influence you so that you would not do what you know you should.

5631. Vs. 18 If you are led by the s______________ you are not under the l____________.

5632. Vs.19 These are the works of the flesh:
Adultery—a married person having sex with someone they are not married to.
Fornication —single person having sex with someone—not married to them
Uncleaness–sinful thoughts, doing sinful things

Lasciviousness–. More than a normal desire for sex—an obsession—always have sex on the mind and desires that are more than normal.
Idolatry—worship of idols

Witchcraft–evil spirits giving power to people to do things or know things that are beyond human.

Hatred—hate toward someone

Variance— having a mind that is often —fighting, quarreling, arguing, with someone.

Emulations—always trying to be better than someone else

Wrath—anger—often angry with people or things

Strife—fighting, arguing with people, saying things to upset people

Seditions—rebellion—-going against rules, laws,

Heresies—heresy—holding to belief of something that is not the accepted truth—usually meaning— having beliefs that are against —-what the Bible teaches.

Envy—being jealous of what others have

Murder—killing someone on purpose—(this does not mean killing in war or battle)—this is one on one killing—deciding to kill someone

Being drunk—drinking until you are drunk—which means you can not think as you should

Revel—enjoyment of wild a party—-doing wild and crazy things
And all such things.

5633. Vs. 21 I have told you this before—and I am telling you again—-that people who do these things—will not be part of the __________________ of _____________.

5634. Vs. 22, 23 The f______________ of the s____________ is
_________________, ___________, _______________,
________________________, _____________________,
_______________________, ______________, ___________________, ___________________
There is no law against these.

5635. Vs. 24 Those who belong to Christ—have _______________
(killed, put away) the love and desires of the f_______________.

5636. Vs. 25 If we live in the s________________—let us also walk in the s______________________.

Vs. 26 Let us not desire others to give us glory and praise—let us not provoke (anger) each other, let us not envy each other.
