John Vs. 1-5

John 1: 1-3 In the _________________________

Was the ________________

See John 1:14 The Word was made __________________
Whom do you think the Word is? _______________

John 1:1 The Word was with God from the __________________________(when ?)

Jesus was God’s only begotton _____________
(Remember John 3:16 ?)

Jesus was of the same essence as God the Father.
The Holy Spirit is of the same essence as God the Father.

Think of water—H2O Has 3 forms: solid—ice
liquid—water
gas —steam, vapor
3 different forms—still same essence—H2O

John 1:3 The Word (who is _______________) is with the Father when all things are created. Jesus is there from the beginning.

See Genesis 1:26 “Let _________ make man in __________ image……..

(When God created the world, —how did he do it? Did He use his hands and make something? What was the way He created everything?
_____________________________________________________________

Do you think this might be the reason John calls God’s Son “The Word”?
Vs. 4 In him was ____________.

“Word”—the spoken word—is the physical manifestation or showing of inner thoughts. Until God spoke “words”—-there was no physical reality or showing of God’s presence.

John is saying that God’s Son was with God from the beginning—and the Son was the Word—- as much as God the Father was the Word.

Verse 4 (first part) In him was life.

See also–John 5:26 Jesus said: “As the Father hath ____________ in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have _____________ in himself.

(Do ordinary people have life in themselves? Do they have the power to make themselves alive?)

(Even when parents “create” babies—-not all babies are born alive.

We do not have the power to give the “breath and spirit of life” to a baby. That is decided by God to give a baby the breath of life.)

When Jesus died—-he willingly surrendered his spirit to the Father.
See Luke 23:46

Vs. 4 (last part) “and the life was the _____________of men”
The light shineth in the darkness.

The darkness comprehended it not——what does comprehend mean? ________________________________________

The darkness was the state of men’s minds and spirits. They did not have much understanding or knowledge of God.

They did not understand that Jesus was not an ordinary person.
They did not understand that Jesus was divine. What does divine mean? ____________________________________________

They did not understand the purpose of Jesus’ coming to earth.
They did not see him as the person God had promised to send—the Messiah—”Anointed One”
———————————————-

Do you know when God first promised to send a “Messiah”—”Saviour?
See Genesis 3:15 God is talking to whom? __________________

God tells him—You will be an enemy of the woman’s _____________ (baby from her body). That baby will bruise (crush) your head. You will bruise his heel.

Who would that baby be? (Someone who would live far in the future.)
_____________________________

(This baby would be the “woman’s seed”—-from the woman.)

God himself—by the Holy Spirit —was going to create a baby in the woman. God himself would truly be the father of the baby.
