Trust and Obey

Trust and obey.
Those two words— are the most important words—-for a Christian’s life.
Those two words—-are the only way—-that you can please the Lord.
The Bible says that “without faith we can not please the Lord”
Hebrews 11: 6—But without faith it is impossible to please him:
For he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them (will answer) that diligently (with much desire and are sincere) seek him. King James Version
———————————————————-
We have to believe that God is.
Then we have to believe that he will hear and answer our prayers.
That is trust.
And we have to obey.
To obey—-we have to know what God wants us to do.
————————————
That means you have to read the Bible to know what God wants.
When you play a game—you have to read the instructions—to know the rules of the game.
When you buy things you have to put together yourself—you have to read the instructions to know how to put it together.
Some people don’t take the time to read the instruction—-and they have a hard time putting the thing together. Or it won’t go together correctly. Or they cannot put it together at all.
You can not walk the Christian life—-if you do not know what God wants you to do.
So you need to get a Bible that has easy words that you can read and understand. There are several kinds of Bibles that have easy words.
I list some on my website. But you can go to a bookstore and tell them what you want, and they can help you get one.
Or go online, and if the website has an example page of the Bible you can see if you can read it and understand it.
Then read it every day. It would be best if you start reading in the New Testament part of the Bible. It talks about Jesus being born and the life of Jesus. Later the books are about how we should live as Christians.
Later on, you can read the Old Testament. But you might want to skip over the books of Leviticus, and Numbers—-because they have long lists of names and families, rules for the Jewish people as they brought animal sacrifices to the tabernacle/ tent church.
Those things are hard to read through and as a new Christian—those instructions are for old times for the Jewish people.
If you read a Chapter or two every day—-you will get through the Bible in about a year or a year and a half.
Then—start over again. The more you read the same things over and over—the more you will remember what it says.
Mark or underline verses that speak to you—-memorize them.
Write them down in a notebook.
You have to know the “instructions” of how God wants you to live—so you can obey them.
——————————————-
Go to a church where you can learn what God wants.
A number of churches have interpreters now. Or go online and go to a website for the deaf that has You Tube and signing.
——————————————–
When you know what God wants you to do—-then obey it.
Do what it says to do.
That is not always easy. Every person has a nature that wants to do things their own way. Every person has a nature that does not want someone to tell them what to do.
That is because of what happened in the Garden of Eden. When Eve and then Adam disobeyed God—sin came into the human heart and nature.
Sin goes against God. Sin does not want to do what God wants.
Sin wants its own way.
That is the nature of every person living.
That is something that will be with us until we die.
————————————————————-
To obey God—-we have to put down our own way and choose God’s way.
We will always have a struggle and hard time—-choosing to do things another person’s way.
It is hard for us to do another person’s way for people we love here on earth.
It is hard for us to choose God’s way—-and not ours.
That is just the way it is for our natures.
But the Bible says—-to please God—-we must choose His way.
If we want God’s Heaven—we must follow God’s rules and instructions.
If we want forgiveness of sins—we must follow God’s rules and instructions.
Heaven belongs to God. We have to follow what He says if we want to get in.
Read what He wants you to do. Obey what he wants you to do.
There are some people who call themselves Christians—-because they believe there is a God—-but they do not do what He says they must do.
They live life as they want. They make their own rules.
How do they think they will get into God’s Heaven? —-when they do not obey His instructions?—-they may not even know His instructions.
—————————————–
As we obey God’s instructions—-sometimes it may be hard.
We may have a weakness for a sin —and it is hard for us to stop doing it.
We want to obey God—but our nature’s are weak.
That is where we trust God—-to give us strength that we do not have.
We trust Him to give us strength to turn away from that thing and do God’s way.
We trust God when life brings bad things into our lives.
We may not understand why it happened.
We may think that God could have kept that thing from happening.
But we keep trusting God—that He knows, He loves, and He cares.
Sometimes we pray that God would now heal us or change things—but it does not happen.
Many Christian people have had bad things happen to them.
Paul, in the Bible, had many bad things happen to him.
Living life on this earth brings bad things. Other people do bad things that make trouble for us. We do things that cause our own trouble.
God has not promised to save us from trouble and bad things.
He has promised to be with us until the end.
He has promised to help us live through this life on earth.
In those times—is would be easy to get mad at God. It would be easy to turn away from God—thinking that He did not care—or that He was not fair.
These are normal feelings everyone has when bad things happen.
What will you do about those feelings?
———————————————–
You have to choose—-will I trust God anyway—even though I don’t understand—–or will I be angry and walk away from God.
It is a choice we have to make.
Heaven is the place —where sin can not make trouble— and bad things wii not happen.
We can only go to God’s Heaven if we trust and have faith and if we obey Him.
We can only go to God’s Heaven if we “overcome” — conquer–
win over—feelings of doubt.
The Bible says: “To him the overcometh, will I grant (give, allow)
to sit with me in my throne.” Revelation 3:21
Paul talks about the Christian life as a “race”—one must run to finish the race. If one finishes—-then they get the prize.
We have to finish this Christian “race”. We have to keep the faith and trust to the very end—-to our last breath—in order to win.
We can not let hard things, heart-break, deep sadness, bad health, accidents that cripple, loss of money, or things—–cause us to
leave the “race”—-to turn away from God—to lose the faith.
———————————————–
Time may come in our country when the government will be against Christians. Christians will suffer, or be put in prison, or be killed. It has happened in other countries.
Will we give up the faith—-to live here on earth? To save our children’s lives for here on earth?
Or will we stay true to Jesus and trust God to take care of our children?
Or will we keep our faith in Jesus and go to God’s Heaven?
We have to “finish” this life—-still having our faith and trust in Jesus.
———————————————–
Obeying and trust go together.
To obey—requires us to trust and have faith that God will help us do what He asks us to do.
We can not say we have “faith”—if we do not obey.
There is an old hymn (church song) that talks about Trusting and Obeying. Here are the words:
Trust and Obey
1 When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way;
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Chorus:
Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
2 Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear,
Not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
3 Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss,
Not a frown or a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.
4 But we never can prove
The delights of His love,
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows,
And the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
5 Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do;
Where He sends, we will go,
Never fear, only trust and obey.
Trust and Obey for there is no other way—-to be happy in Jesus—and to please God.
