Chapter 18 Verses 31-43

Verse 31 Jesus told his disciples—-Let us go to Jerusalem. All the things the prophets have said about the Son of Man will happen.

Vs. 32 He will be given over to the Gentiles (non-Jews—in this case —the Romans).

He will be mocked–made fun of.

He will be spit on and have men do mean things to him.

Vs. 33 They will beat him with a “scourge”—a whip with pieces of metal or stone on the ends.

And—on the 3rd day he will rise (get up) again.

Vs. 34 The disciples did not understand anything Jesus said.

They could not imagine that Jesus would be beaten or that he would die.

Crowds of people came to Jesus everywhere they went—wanting to hear him teach. Wanting him to heal them.

Also, in the Jewish mind—the Promised Messiah to come was going to save their nation. He would be a king. Other nations would not be in rule over the Jews any more.

—————

It was and is true that Jesus is to be a King and rule over the Jews—He will rule over the whole world.

Jesus’ coming the first time was not to be a king. He came to die for man’s sin. Jesus came the first time to be a Savior.

Jesus will come the second time to earth. When he comes again, he will be King of the whole earth.

Vs.35 As Jesus came near to Jerusalem, a blind man sat by the road begging. He heard people talking and he asked what was happening. They told him that Jesus was coming along the road.

The blind man began to call out very loud—”Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.”

The people around the blind man tried to get him to be quiet.

But he called out louder, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.”

Vs. 40 Jesus asked that the blind man be brought to him.

He asked the blind man—what do you want me to do for you?

The blind man said, I want to see.

Vs. 42 Jesus said to him—Receive your sight—your faith has saved you.

Vs. 43 Then the blind man could see ! He followed Jesus and was praising God. All the people who saw it began praising God.
