(Long ago in that area of the world, a king would ride into the city on a donkey.

Soldiers came riding into a city on horses. If the leader of the army came riding in on a horse, especially a white horse—it was a sign that he was coming in to conquer the city and take it over.)

3808. Vs. 15 This verse is quoting a verse from the Old Testament—-Zechariah 9:9—-What was the prophecy? _________________

(Some people have had to die for Jesus. They give up their life rather than say they would turn away from believing in Jesus.

Eleven of the disciples died because they preached about Jesus.

They gave up this life—-but they got life forever in heaven.

But like the grain of wheat that dies in the ground —and grows much more grain—-so the death of those who die for Jesus—-have reached many people and helped them believe in Jesus.

Their one life—became many lives that now believe in Jesus.

People who _____________ their life in ths world will _____________ it. But people who __________________ their life in this world will ____________ it for eternal life.

(Jesus was saying—-people who love their life in this world—-so that is all they think about. In the end they will have nothing.

Wise people understand that we have a spirit that will live forever—somewhere. We need to choose how we live in this world. It is not just all about fun and pleasure. It is not just about buying nice things.

We give up some things because we love God and want to do right.

Missionaries give up living in their homeland with their relatives—-to go far away to preach the gospel.

Other people may give up buying things for themselves so they can give money to the missionaries to help them preach the gospel.

There are other ways we may give up things of this earth—so that we can do things for God that will last forever.
