Is Your Name Written in the Book of Life?
Joyce Webb 2014
The Bible speaks about a book ——in heaven.
In the book was written the name of every person who lived.
It is called the Book of Life. Sometimes it is called the Book of the Lamb of God.
Everyone—–whose name—-is in the book—-will have—–eternal life.
Some of the names—–have been—–blotted (crossed, marked) out.
Revelation 3: 5 “He that overcometh, (wins over sin),——-
the same (person) will be clothed in white raiment (robe),
and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life,
But I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.”
The people who have their name blotted out of the book——will not have eternal life.
They will not get to stay in heaven.
Revelation 20:15 And whoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast (thrown) into the Lake of Fire. (hell)
What names will stay in the book?
The names of the people who accept Jesus as Savior.
People who believe that Jesus died for their sins,—— and rose to live again.
People who asked Jesus for forgiveness —-and stayed true and faithful to Jesus—–until they died.
The Christian life is like a race.
Starting the race does not count,—–only those who finish the race get a prize.
What names will be blotted out or crossed out?
People who would not believe in Jesus.
People who would not give up their sin.
People who did not ask for forgiveness.
People who started to follow Jesus——and then turned back to their sin and gave up following Jesus.
Here are some verses that tell about the Book of Life:
Revelation 3: 5 He that overcometh, (wins over sin),
——the same (person) will be clothed in white raiment (robe),
——-and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life,
——-But I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Revelation 20:12 And I (John) saw the dead,——great and small, (important people and common people)
——-they all stood before God;——-and the books were opened;
which is the Book of Life; ——-and the dead were judged—–out of those things which were written in the books, according to (by) their works.
(God has books. He has written all the things we have done. We will be judged by those things.)
(For the believer ——we are forgiven,——we will not have to answer for our sins
because God said he has forgiven us——
and our sins are removed ——–“as far as the east is from the west”
——and they will never be remembered to us again.
After we become a Christian and follow Jesus—-what we do, —— our good works
are written——and our works—–are judged
——-whether they are things that are lasting——–and have eternal value——-or things that were just for earth and have no eternal value.)
Revelation 21:27 And there shall in no wise (way) enter into it (the new heaven and new earth ,see vs. 1) anything that defiles (makes dirty or unclean),
———–neither anyone who works abomination (sinful things)—– nor any that makes a lie,
——-but the only ones to enter are they which are written in the Book of Life.
Revelation 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy (this book of Revelation that John wrote
—if anyone takes out some of the words and changes what is written)
——–God will take away his part (name) out of the Book of Life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
In the Old Testament, the people understood that God had a book that had the names of the righteous.
Exodus 32:32 Moses is praying to God: He said—–Yet now, if You forgive their sin…., and if not,—— blot me out of the book which You have written.
(God did not blot out Moses’ name from the book. But this verse shows how much Moses loved the people.)
Psalms 69:28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living,—–and not be written with the righteous.
See also : Daniel 12:1, Ezekiel 13:9,
Malachi 3:16 From the New Living Bible:
In his presence,—–a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared him ——–and loved to think about him.
They will be my special treasure. ———I will spare (save) them as a father spares an obedient and child who does his duty.
Then you will again see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.
Luke 10:20 Jesus said: ……rejoice (be glad) that your name is written in heaven.
From these verse——it looks like——everyone’s name is written in the Book of Life.
Some of the names stay——written in the book. Some of the names are blotted out.
The names that stay in the book——-are those who have believed in Jesus and have asked for forgiveness of sins—–and have stayed with Jesus until they die.
What you do about Jesus——will decide——if your name will stay in the Book of Life or not.
For me——-I want my name to stay——in the Book of Life——and I will do what is needed to keep it there.
