These church leaders were not really interested in believing in Jesus. They were not really interested in learning the truth about him. They wanted to “test” him or trick him.. They had seen many miracles and healings that Jesus had done. They did not need to see another “sign” from heaven.
2125. Vs. 5-12 Jesus and his disciples crossed the lake. The disciples had not taken any ____________________ to eat.
Jesus told them to be careful of the leaven of the Pharisees.
Leaven is yeast that makes the bread rise.
The disciples thought that Jesus was talking about leaven because they had forgotten to bring bread to eat. But Jesus was talking about the “teachings” of the Pharisees.
Leaven in the Bible is sometimes is a picture of sin. Just as a little bit of yeast “leaven” makes the bread dough rise up so a little sin grows bigger and bigger and just as the yeast goes all through the bread so sin goes all through the person, a town, a group of people.
The Pharisees were so proud and had so many rules about being holy. It was not what God asked of people. They were rules made by man.
The Pharisees were more interested in following all their own rules than really obeying God and loving God.
2126. Vs. 13-
Jesus asked his ___________________ “Who do men say _____________________?”

Some church groups believe that Jesus meant that upon Peter the church of Jesus would be built. The name Simon Peter meant “a stone”.
Other church groups believe that Jesus meant that upon this truth that Peter said
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” This truth was what the church was built on.
2130. Jesus went on to say “I will give unto you the ___________________ of the _____________________________ of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven.
Some church groups believe this means that Peter is the person who lets people into heaven.
Many other Bible verses tell us that it is our believing in Jesus and asking for forgiveness that gets us into heaven. It is not about Peter. He has nothing to do with it.
Peter was chosen by Jesus to be one of the main preachers to tell people about Jesus after Jesus went back into heaven. Peter was one of the main leaders in the church after Jesus went back into heaven.
So in some ways Peter was the main one to build the church of Jesus. Peter was also one of the men who helped decide what they would teach the people. Deciding to “bind things on earth”—-we are not sure what Jesus mean completely. It seems to have to do with the church leaders making decisions about the church and how things would be done and how things would be taught.
Jesus may have been talking about evil spirits and that Peter and the other disciples would be able to free people of the evil spirits and the evil spirits would have to listen.
2131. Jesus told the disciples to not tell any one that he was ____________________

This verse is hard to understand also. Jesus told the people he was God’s son. Jesus told them that he was the one Isaiah talked about who would come.
After Jesus went back into heaven the disciples told everyone that Jesus was the Christ, the Messiah.
Maybe Jesus did not want them to say anything yet until he was gone into heaven.
In chp.17 vs.9 Jesus told them not to say anything until after he was risen from the dead.

Choosing Jesus and staying with Jesus is more important than anything even life here on earth. If we have Jesus he is more important than anything we could get here on earth. If we have Jesus we will get heaven even if we lose our life here on earth.
If we choose the things on earth even life here more than Jesus we will lose life eternal in heaven.
Through history and even today in parts of the world people are told to turn away from Jesus and they can live. If they keep believing in Jesus, they will be killed.
Jesus said don’t give up Jesus you will lose life in heaven. It is better to lose your life here on earth and go to heaven.
2136. Vs. 27 Some day Jesus will come again. And he will give a ________________
to those who stayed true to him. People will receive a reward as to their _________________ or the life they lived for Jesus and what they did for Jesus.
2137. Vs. 28 Jesus said Some _______________________ here will not see death until the Son of Man comes to his kingdom. This verse is the same in Mark 9:1 and Luke 9:27—-both Luke and Mark tell the same thing.
This verse is very hard to understand what Jesus meant. Anyone standing there with him surely did die. There will be people who believe in Jesus who will not die because they will go up in the “rapture” when Jesus comes in the clouds.
