John Chp. 8    Vs. 12-20

Vs. 12 Jesus said to the people and leaders: “I am the light of the world:

he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

Vs. 13 The Jewish leaders—Pharisees—-said to Jesus—you bear record of yourself—your record is not true. Meaning—you say these things yourself –about yourself—how can we believe you without other witnesses that this is true?

Vs. 14 Jesus said—Yes, I said these things about myself, but they are true.

I know where I came from and where I am going.

But you can not tell where I came from or where I am going.

Vs. 15 You judge after the flesh. (Meaning: You judge as a human person and by what you see.)

Jesus said: I judge no man. Vs. 16 Yet—if I judge—my judgment is true. I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me.

Vs. 17 It is also written in your law—-that the testimony of two men is true.

Vs. 18 I am one who bears witness of myself—-and the Father that sent me bears witness of me.

Vs. 19 Then the leaders said to him: Where is your Father?

Jesus said: You do not know me, nor do you know my Father.

If you had known me, you would have known my Father, too.

Vs. 20 These are the words Jesus said as he talked in the temple. No one tried to put hands on him to take him—-because his time (for death and arrest) was not yet come.
