  John     Chp.8   Vs. 1-12

Vs. 1 Jesus went to the Mt. Olives.

Vs. 2 Jesus came into the temple. Many people came in to hear him. He sat and taught them.

Vs. 3-4 The Jewish church leaders—the scribes and Pharisees—brought a woman before Jesus. They said that she was “making love” with someone not her husband. They saw her doing it. So they took her and brought her to Jesus.

Vs. 5 They said—Moses’ law says she should be stoned. What do you say?

Vs. 6 They asked Jesus—to test him—to see what he would say. Would he go against what Moses’ law said?

Jesus acted like he did not hear them and began to write on the ground—in the dirt.

Vs.7 They asked him again. Jesus said—the person who has not sinned—let him cast (throw) the first stone.

(Jesus did not say—do not stone her—and Jesus did not say “stone her”.

He said—whoever has not sinned—let him throw the first stone.

Every one has sinned. Everyone of those Jewish leaders knew they had sinned.

So, there was no one to throw a stone.)

Vs. 8 Jesus began to write in the dirt again.

Vs.9 The Jewish leaders knew they were guilty of doing sins—-so one by one they left. Jesus and the woman were the only ones still there.

(Maybe Jesus was writing the names of the Jewish leaders and a sin that they did—-maybe that was what they saw and they decided to leave.)

Vs. 10 Jesus looked up from writing—asked the woman—where are the men who were saying you were guilty of sin?

Vs.11 The woman said—there is no one left and no one to blame me.

Vs.12 Jesus said I do not condemn (blame, accuse) you either—go and do not sin any more.
