John Chip. 7 Vs. 32-53

Vs. 32 The P____________________ heard the people talking about what Jesus said. The chief ______________ and the
________________ tried to take Jesus.

Vs. 33 Yet for a little while —I will be with you. Then I will go to
____________ that sent me.

Vs. 34 You will seek (look for) me, but you will not find me.
Where I am, you will not be able to ______________.

Vs. 35 The people said, “Where will he go that we cannot come?”
“Will he go to the G___________________?”

Vs. 36 What manner of saying is this (What is he saying?) That you will look for me, but will not find me. That where I am, you cannot come?

Vs. 37 On the last day of the feast—Jesus stood up and said—”If any man is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.

Vs.38 He that believes on me—-the scripture has said—out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”
See Deuteronomy 18:15-18.

(out of his belly—meaning that the “living water”—the Holy Spirit—-would flow outward —from within a person)

Vs. 39 Jesus was talking about the Holy Spirit. That those who believed on Him would receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit had not yet been given. (It was not given until after Jesus returned to heaven.)

Vs. 40 When the people heard him say this—-many of them believed that Jesus was the prophet. (Meaning “the prophet” –the Messiah—-spoken of in the Old Testament.)

Vs. 41 Some said—this is the Christ—Messiah. Others said—shall Christ come out of Galilee?

Vs. 42 They said—Has not the scriptures said that Christ would come out of the “seed” (family) of David? He would come out of Bethlehem —where David was.

(They did not know that Jesus was born in Bethlehem?)

Vs. 43 So there was a division among the people because of what Jesus said about himself.

Vs. 44 Some of them would have taken Jesus to arrest him —-but no one put their hands on him.

Vs. 45 The officers (temple guards) had been sent to arrest Jesus —-but when they went back to the Jewish church leaders without Jesus—-the leaders asked—”Why didn’t you bring him here?”

Vs. 46 The officers said—”No man has ever spoken like this man.”

Vs. 47 The leaders said—”Have you also been deceived?” (Meaning —to be made to believe something that is not true)

Vs. 48 “Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed on him?”

Vs. 49 “These people who know not the law—are cursed.”
(The leaders thought they were the only ones who really knew the law/scriptures—-and that the regular people did not really know the law–scriptures.)

Vs. 50 Nicodemus said to them (he is the one who came to Jesus at night time to talk to Jesus.) Nicodemus was one of the leaders there.

Vs. 51 He said—“Does our law judge a man before they hear him?–or before they see what he does?”

Vs. 52 The other leaders said to him—”Are you also from Galilee?
Look in the scriptures—-no prophet comes from Galilee.”

Vs. 53 Then they all went home.
