Ephesians Chp 1 Vs. 1-23
5652. Vs. 1-3 Paul writes a greeting to the believers at Ephesus.
Vs. 4 Paul said that God chose us to be his “children”—even before the ______________________ of the world were made.
That we should be ____________ and without _______________.
5653. Vs. 5 That we were p_________________________
(meaning—it was chosen ahead of time—who would believe and who would not.
There is another verse that talks about God’s foreknowledge
Romans 8:29 “ For whom he did fore know, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son.”
(In other words, God knew ahead of time—who would choose to believe in Jesus. And because of knowing this—-those people were “predestined” or decided to be believers.)
5654. Vs. 6, 7, 8 Paul gives praise to God for “adopting” himself —–and them—– to be God’s “children”.
5655. Vs. 9 God has made known to us—-the m_____________ of his will.
(The Jewish people —-for hundreds of years—did not really believe that the Gentiles were to have God’s blessings and favor—-as was given to the Jews.
The Jews thought they were “special”—and the Gentiles were not part of God’s special blessings.)
Now, Paul is saying—-God planned—all along—-that the Gentiles would be part of God’s blessings and favor and forgiveness.
They, too, would know God’s salvation from their sins—-and eternal life in heaven.
God had a plan as to when that would happen.
At this time in history—-the Roman army had conquered and taken over many countries. Their rule covered countries in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and even into England.
They had built roads that traveled all over these countries.
Their language had become the language used by the government and leaders of these nations.
This is the first time in history—that there was this much common use of the same language, the same kind of governing leaders, the roads that made traveling from place to place easy.
So, now—-missionaries—like Paul and others could go to many different lands and preach and teach about Jesus.
Now, was the time for Gentiles to hear about Jesus and believe in Him.)
5656. Vs. 10 Paul said: “In the _______________ of times—-God would put Christ to rule over all things—both on earth and in heaven.
5657. Vs. 11 In Christ—we have an i__________________—to inherit means to receive money or things from someone—usually after that person has died.
Because we—believers– were predestined—chosen—-to inherit God’s blessings and salvation and eternal life..
5658. Vs. 12 That we should give praise to the g_________ of God.
5659. 13 In whom, you also trusted—-after you heard the w__________ of t_____________,—the gospel of your s____________________.
(I think Paul is saying—that the Jewish people were first to believe in Jesus—because Jesus came to the Jewish people first. But, now,—the Gentiles are hearing about Jesus—and they are now part of God’s children who will receive the “inheritance”—eternal life.)
After you believed—-you were sealed with the H__________

5660. Vs. 14 (The giving of the Holy Spirit—-was the “earnest”—-meaning the first part—of our inheritance—of what God promised to believers.
Now, we wait for the rest of the “inheritance”—-heaven, and the rewards given to us there.
Vs. 15,16 After I heard of your faith—-and love of other “saints”—believers—-I always give t_______________ to God, and mention—(say your name) — to God in my __________________.
5661. Vs. 17 That God would give to you the spirit of w_____________ and r____________________ in the knowledge of him.
5662. Vs. 18 That the eyes of your “u__________________”—–
would be enlightened —-(giving more understanding of spiritual things)—-so that you would know the “hope” that you have—-because of his calling—-and of your believing in him.
And you would understand—-the riches of His glory —of the inheritance for the saints—believers.
5663. Vs. 19 And you would understand—the greatness of his
p________________ toward us who believe—-the working of his mighty power.
5664. Vs. 20 This power—-raised (made alive again) Christ.
God put Christ at his own r_____________ hand in heaven.
5665. Vs. 21 Christ has been put in power (rule) over every power, and government, and nation in this world.
Vs.22, 23 And Christ is the “head” over all things of the c_____________.
The church is Christ’s “body”. Christ’s presence and spirit —fills the church. Christ’s presence and spirit— fills all things everywhere.
