Galatians     Chp 1 Vs. 1-24

Introduction:
Paul came to Galatia to preach. It was his first visit.
After he left them, a group of Jewish people —who became believers in Jesus—-came to preach to them.
These Jewish believers -tried to tell the Galatians that they had to obey the laws of Moses.

Paul told the people that —in Christ—there was a new law—a new covenant—a new “testament”.
It was one of “faith” in Christ—-not by obeying the old laws.

Paul tells how Abraham’s faith—that was what made him acceptable to God.

Abraham lived 400 years before Moses had the 10 Commandments and other religious laws.

Abraham was accepted by God—because of his “faith” and trust in God. There were no “laws” to obey at that time.

Paul said—Now that Jesus has come—–God accepts us because of our “faith”—-it is not by our obeying the old laws.

5567. Paul called this teaching—”another gospel”. Paul said—there really is not “another gospel”. There is only one true one.

But what they heard from these Jewish speakers—-was a perverted
(changed) gospel—that was not true).

Vs. 6 Paul warns them—-If we (Paul and the men with him)—-should try to tell them something different—than what Paul preached to them the first time—–they should not believe it.

Paul had told them the true gospel the first time. That was the only truth.

Paul said—-even if an ___________________ came down from heaven and told you another “gospel”—-you should not believe it.

Verse 9 Paul said—if anyone—tries to tell you something different than what we preached to you the first time—-let them be __________________. (Because they would be telling you a lie.)

I persecuted (hurt them—put them in jail, etc.) for believing in Jesus as God.

Vs. 14 Because of this—the Jewish leaders lifted me up as a good Jew and leader. They thought — I was better than others.

Vs. 15 But God—who saw me in my mother’s womb—had plans for me.

(Paul said—God knows his plans for someone—even before they are born.

What does this tell us about “abortion”—the killing of babies before they are born?

God had a plan for them. But they were killed.)

Paul said—He called me—-by his grace—-Vs. 16 To show me—-his Son, Jesus.

So, that I could preach about him—-among the heathen (people who did not believe).

When God showed me the truth about Jesus—immediately –I changed what I believed and was converted (changed).

I did not go to Jerusalem where Jesus’ disciples were. I went to Arabia and then to Damascus.

(Some Bible teachers think Paul went to where the Essences —a group of religious men—lived in the desert. They studied the scriptures. They had strict rules about living.

Paul learned many things about the scriptures during his time with them.)
