5527. Vs. 1-2 What are some of the people saying about Paul?
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
5528. Vs. 3,4 Paul said that they did not fight against sin and wrong doing by their own strength—-but by ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
5529. God’s weapons can pull down —____________________
(Strong holds can be used in 2 ways. A strong hold can be like a fort, or strong wall, –a place where an army or soldiers use to protect themselves while fighting.
A strong hold can also be used when talking about something that has a “hold” on a person—something like a bad habit.
Something in that person’s life that has a “hold” on them that is not good for them, but they can not seem to stop it, or get rid of it. It keeps a “hold” on them and it is bad for them.
It could be fear, —or a habit like drugs, drinking, etc., or some other kind of habit.
Paul says that —it is through God’s power—that “strong holds” can be taken down.
5530. Vs. 5 Casting down—pulling down—i____________________and other high thing that exalts (lifts itself up) against the knowledge of God.
(In many of the places where Paul preached—-men would come to argue and talk and say that Paul’s preaching about Jesus and God was not true.
Most of these men had grown up worshipping idols. Their ideas of right and wrong were different than what Jesus taught.
Paul is saying—that just using words and arguments with these people would not change their minds. It would take the power of God through the Holy Spirit to change their minds.
Paul said—To bring every thought “captive”—like someone caught and tied –or put in chains—-their thoughts would be brought into submitting to obeying Christ.
(When I read these verses, I can see another meaning.
People can imagine (daydream, have thoughts) of things that are sinful.
Many have thoughts of sexual acts with people they are not married to.
Many have thoughts of sexual acts of various kinds that are not pleasing to God and God says those thoughts are wrong and sinful.
Some people imagine thoughts to hurt others. They imagine thoughts of getting back at others.
If we want to please God—our thoughts and imaginations must be pleasing to God.
We need to take our thoughts “captive” and bring them to a place of obeying God.)
Verse 6 Paul speaks of discipline and punishment for those who continue to disobey God’s word.
5531. Verse 7 Paul asks them—Do you judge people by how they look on ____________________?
Some men say they are of Christ. So are we of Christ.
5532. Vs. 8 I could say more about our authority to preach Christ. You would say I was p_____________ and __________________.
The Lord has given us authority to minister—to build up people in the faith—not to pull them down.
(Paul is talking about the things he has had to speak about—- to correct the people who were doing wrong things.
Paul corrected them—not to make them discouraged—but because they needed to obey God—to be happy and successful.)
5533. Vs. 9,10 People say I am bold and strong in my l______________, —-but when I am with you—I am not so strong and bold.
Vs. 11 If a person thinks this way, they will see that when we come— we will be strong in words.
Vs. 12-16 Paul says–We do not compare ourselves to others who preach.
Some of those preachers boast about themselves. We will not do that.
We do not compare ourselves to other men’s work and ministry.
What God has given to us—we have preached to you.
5534. Vs.17 Any one who wants to “g________”—-let him “glory” in the Lord.
Vs. 18 It is not for a person to commend himself— (praise himself) —it is for the Lord to commend and praise him.
