————————————————————–
It seems that the believers—-being so excited about the gifts of the spirit—that they all wanted to speak in the meetings. But they were all trying to talk out at the same time, and some trying to be more noticed than others.
It was just a jumble and confusing. Paul was trying to get them to be orderly about it so everyone could hear and understand and profit from what was being said.
It also seemed that many of them wanted to speak in tongues—but it was becoming just a lot of “talk” and no one was getting any benefit from it.
When Paul spoke about the women not speaking out in the meetings—-that was the custom of those times.
It is the custom today in some countries.
In the United States today—women have more freedom.
It is acceptable for them to speak in a public meeting.
They need to do it wisely and respectfully and carefully.
Even in the United States— it is mostly still a “man’s world”.
In some Protestant churches—they do not allow women preachers or allow the women to teach men. They may teach in a woman’s group.
The bases or foundation for this belief in from the book of Genesis—-Adam and Eve—-after Eve sinned—-God said to Eve—”thy desire shall be to thy husband and he shall rule over thee.” Gen. 3:16
