Chapter 3 Verse 1-17

Verse 1 Paul said—You know that in the last days—-perilous (great danger) times shall come.

Verse 2 People will love their own selves.
They will covet what others have.
They will be proud and boast (talk about what they have, or what they do)
They will blaspheme God. (Say things against God.)
They will not obey their parents.
They will not be thankful.
They will not be holy.

Verse 3 They will not have natural affection (love) for others—(This could mean they will not have natural love for the opposite sex—but will love those of the same sex)
They will not keep promises that they made.
They will accuse others falsely.
They will not control themselves—in behavior,–in or sexual acts,—-they will not show self-control.
They will be fierce—violent, angry.
They will despise—-hate—those who are good.

Verse 4 They will be traitors—not faithful.
They will be heady—full of themselves, quick to act.
They will be high minded—think highly of themselves.
They will love pleasure more than God.

Verse 5 They may have the form of religion, pretend to be godly—-but they deny —are against— the true God and his word.
All of these—stay away from them.

Verse 6 These are the kind of people who sneak into houses (or churches) and lead people away. Like silly women who listen to anyone.

They lead away people who like their sins— and have lusts of many kinds.

Verse 7 Those people are led away— They are people who are always “learning” new teachings—-but they never come to an understanding of God’s truth.

Verse 8 In the Old Testament—it tells how Jannes and Jambres stood against Moses. (Exodus 7: 11 They were 2 magicians of Pharaoh.

People like them—resist the truth. They have corrupt (twisted, mistaken wrong ideas) minds. They are reprobate (evil).
Not believing or having faith in God.

Verse 9 These people will not go far—because people will see what they really are.

Verse 10 Timothy, You have known my doctrine (teachings).
You have known how I have lived. You have known my faith.
You have seen my longsuffering, my patience, and my charity (love to others).

Verse 11 You have seen me being persecuted (beaten, put in prison), troubles of many kinds. You have seen things happen to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra. You saw what they did to me.
And yet the Lord delivered me out of them all.

Verse 12 All believers who live a godly life in Christ Jesus—will suffer persecution.

Verse 13 Evil men and seducers (a person who leads others away—to believe differently, to do something wrong, etc.)—–these kind of people —-there will be more and more of them. They will get worse and worse. They themselves are deceived and they deceive others.

Verse 14 But you Timothy, continue in the things you have learned.
You are sure of these things. You know who taught you.

Verse 15 From the time you were a child—you have known the scriptures.
You are able to make wise decisions—–that will lead to salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

Verse 16 All scripture—is given by inspiration of God.
(Meaning—God spoke to men to write down the things in the Bible.) (These writings have been saved and passed down for thousands of years.)

These teachings are for our profit and blessing. They are doctrine—teaching the truths about God. They are for our correction—to instruct (teach us)) to live right in God’s ways.

Verse 17 So that the man of God—will be perfect, and complete, in all good works.
