I Corinthians Chp 9 Vs 1-27
5268. Vs. 1 Paul asked the question—-
__________________________________________
5269. He said—-Have I not seen Jesus? When did Paul see Jesus? ____________________________________
_____________________________________________
5270. Paul asked—-are you not my __________________
(the people that I taught).
5271. Vs. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Paul asked them several questions—-
He said—If you don’t think that I am an _____________
—-still, I am one to you.
(Because Paul is the one who preached to them and prayed with them.)
5272. Paul asks—Don’t I have the right to __________ and __________________?
5273. Don’t I have a right to bring along a _______________ or a sister—like some of the other apostles do when they travel?
5274. P_______________ was one of the disciples/apostles who brought his wife along with him when he traveled.
5275. Paul asks—-Is it only B_____________________ and I who have to work to provide for ourselves?
Don’t we have the right to not work and expect you to feed us and pay us for ministering to you?
(Other men who came to them preaching—-the believers took care of their food and a place to stay. Those men did not work on the side to buy their own food or a place to stay.
Paul never asked the churches—to provide him food or a place to stay. Paul always worked on the side as a tent maker to earn his own way.
But as a minister-missionary to them—they should have given Paul food and a place to stay. They did it for all others.
It was Paul’s choice to do it himself—so that no one who criticize him for being a “burden” or expecting to be kept.)
(It seems that these believers at Corinth are criticizing Paul. They must be saying that he is not a real apostle or teacher or leader.
Other men came to preach—some with fancy words and acting important. They were accepted. Paul was very humble and asked for nothing. They thought less of him. They must have thought that since he did not accept payment—-he was less than a real preacher.)
5276. Vs. 7 Paul asked more questions:
Doesn’t a man who plants a vineyard (grapes) eat some of the fruit?
Doesn’t a man who keeps sheep uses the m____________ from the sheep?
5277. Vs. 8, 9 Paul said—Am I making up these things? Am I just a man talking? Does not the l__________ say the same.
The law of Moses says that you are not to put a muzzle on an ox when he is treading out the grain —but you are to let him ________ some of the grain as he works.
5278. Vs 10-14 Paul said the person who plows the field is allowed to eat of the crop that grows.
If we (Paul and Barnabas) have “sown” the Word of God into your lives to give you spiritual life—don’t we have the right to have our needs provided for?
If you provide for others, don’t we have the same right?
But we never used our right. We provided for ourselves.
Don’t you know that the priests who work in the temple get to share in the offerings that people bring to the temple?
Vs. 14 God has planned it—-that those who preach the
g_____________________ should live (be provided for)
their work in preaching.
5279. Vs. 15 I have used none of these things. I did not take anything from you—so that no one can blame me for preaching just to get money or free things.
Vs. 16 I preach the gospel. But I do not take g______________
for myself. I must preach. God has called me. It would be bad for me to not preach when God has called me to do it.
5280. Vs. 17-18 If I am preaching just because I want to—then I could expect payment.
But God has given me this calling and I must obey Him.
What is my pay? My pay is knowing that I have given people the gospel freely. I did not charge them for doing it.
I had a right to be paid, but I did not take it.
I “work” –”preach” for free. But I have made myself a “servant” to all.
Vs. 20 To the Jews—I became a ________________.
(I did as the Jews did.) So that I could win them to Jesus.
(I obeyed the Jewish laws when I was with them—-so that they would accept me and listen to me.)
Vs. 21 When I was with the Gentiles—-I did as the Gentiles did.
(I did not follow all the Jewish laws. I did follow the laws of Christ. I did this so the Gentiles would listen to me.)
(The Jewish “laws” that Paul is speaking about here are probably the law about circumcision and the laws about eating certain foods.
When Paul was with the Jews—he was careful to eat what they ate.
When Paul was with the Gentiles, —he ate the same food they ate.
And he did not tell them they had to be circumcised.)
5281. Vs. 22 Paul said—To the w_______________ I became ___________________. So that I could gain their trust in me.
I tried to be like all men so that I could __________________
__________________________________________________
I did this for the g__________________ sake.
5282. Vs. 24 In a race, all men run. But only one gets the ___________________.
Run the Christian race so that you can win.
5283. Vs. 25 Every one who runs a race, or plays in a sport, is careful about what he eats, and does exercises to be strong.
They do it to get a “c_______________” (prize) that is only for this life.
We run a spiritual race—so that we will win a “crown”
that will last for eternity (forever).
Vs 25-26. I (Paul) run a race. I do it with sure purpose.
I “fight” (for preaching the gospel) —with purpose —not empty beating the air.
5284. Vs. 27 I disciple my body (and mind)—-so that when I
p__________________ to others, I should not be ashamed or blamed.
