—————————–
(In other places Paul speaks about eating meat—or not eating meat.
There was a lot of discussion and arguments about it in the early church.

One reason —was because of the idol worship that most of the world was doing. People brought meat offerings to the idols, and later—some of the extra meat was bought at the market and eaten by the people.

Some of the Christians thought that it was wrong to eat meat offered to the idols. They thought the idols polluted the meat. (made the meat tainted–”dirty”)

Some of the Christians thought is was wrong to eat any meat at all.

Paul and the church leaders at Jerusalem talked about this. They decided that it would be best to tell the Christians not to eat meat that had been offered to idols—-but it was okay to eat other meat.

Acts 15:28-29 tells of the discussion that the leaders had. In the end they decided on 4 things that the Gentile Christians should not do.

Three of these were not “rules”. They were suggestions.

Because the Gentile Christians were coming from idol worship—-and often joining in with Jewish people who were now Christians—-the leaders at Jerusalem made these suggestions.

The leaders did not want there to be arguments and hard feelings between the two groups of believers.

So, the leaders said, it would be best—-and wiser—-if the Gentile believers did not eat meat that had been offered to idols.

They also said—that they should not eat meat that had blood in it—meaning the animal had been strangled and not killed with a knife to let the blood run out.

The Jews —from Old Testament times—only ate meat that had been killed with a knife—-and the blood ran out.

The Jews would not have eaten anything offered to an idol.

So it was the new Gentile Christians coming into the church——that needed these guidelines.

The other thing the leaders said that they should not do —-was God’s rule—no sexual sin—no sexual relationship with someone you are not married to.

In the markets, meat left over from the idol offerings was sold.
When people went to buy meat, some of the meat was from idol offerings.

In I Corinthians 10:25 Paul talks about the meat sold in the market at the booths. He said—Don’t ask questions about it. Buy the meat and eat it.

But if you are at someone’s house, and the person tells you that the meat served is from an idol offering—-do not eat it—so that you do not hurt another Christian who thinks you should not eat meat offered to idols.

In I Corinthians in several chapters, Paul talks about this.

Paul said, As a Christian, he knows that idols are false, and an idol has no power. He is not worried about eating meat that was offered to an idol.

But if he is with people that think it is wrong to eat such meat—then Paul will not eat it either. He does not want to hurt their faith.

He does not want to make them think about doing something that their conscience (mind) says is wrong.

Paul says—that as a strong believer in the Lord—he feels free to eat the meat—-but, — he thinks it is wiser and kinder—-not to make an argument over it.

5095. Verse 5 Paul said, that some people think that certain days are holy. Other people think all days are the same.

Paul said, Let every man be fully p______________________
(decide for himself) in his own mind.

Verse 6 A person who regards (chooses) a certain day to worship or be holy—then let him worship on that day. If another person chooses another day—then let him worship on that day.

(The Jewish people always worshipped from Friday evening at sunset—through—Saturday at sunset. That was their holy day.
It was called the Sabbath.

Colossians 2:16 Paul also talks about choosing one day over another.

History tells us that worship on Sunday—as a general custom—did not happen until about 150 AD.

However, there were groups—in Paul’s day— that did worship on Sundays. The New Testaments speaks of “the first day of the week”.

Believers in various countries—in the early days of the church—-had different days to meet. Some of them had different customs.

Groups of believers were not “uniform” —were not alike in the way they worshipped.

Later, as time went on—the Christian church believers became more organized and alike in the way they did things.
