Bible Questions #5026- 5038

Romans              Chapter 12 Verses 1-7

5026. Verse 1 Paul said, “ I ask you–I beg you—by the mercy of God—that you give your body—(yourself)—-as a ____________ _____________________ to God.

5027. One that is holy and acceptable unto God.
This is a ______________________ service that you can do.

(The Jews knew about sacrifices. They brought animals to an altar and the animal was killed.

God had told them to do that—back in the time of the Old Testament. Back in Adam’s time.

Because man had sinned. God said, “If you eat from that tree—you will die.” Adam ate—and the punishment of death came upon him.

God did not kill Adam’s body right then. But Adam’s body did begin to grow old and slowly die.

Adam’s soul had the death punishment over it. His soul would not live in heaven forever. His soul would go to hell.

God said that he would make a way for Adam’s soul to be redeemed or saved. God’s plan would be for His Son Jesus to come as a man and die in Adam’s place.

Jesus would not come to do that for thousands of years. So God told man to bring a lamb and kill it on an altar. The lamb would die for the man’s sin—-instead of the man.

When the man brought the lamb each year—he was reminded that it was his sin that the lamb was dying for.

5028. When Paul speaks of believers in Jesus—-giving their bodies as a “living s______________”. Not a dead body—a living body. A living body that serve God.

The idea is that we bring ourselves to God—-giving him our bodies—our lives—-to live for God and to do whatever God wants us to do.

For Paul—that meant that he was to travel around from place to place preaching to the Jews and Gentiles about Jesus.

Paul had to go through many hard times, being hungry, being cold,
going through ship wrecks, being beaten, being in jail, etc.

5029. His body was like a “sacrifice” to the Lord. Paul said that we all should give ourselves to God like this. That it is a “r____________________” service to God.

God does not call everyone to do as Paul did. God does have a plan for each of us—something—in some way—that we can serve God.)

5030. Verse 2 Paul goes on to say—We should not be c_________________ to this world. Meaning “made like” “shaped like” this world.

Do not copy the world’s behavior and customs and ways of thinking.

Some examples:

*Being money hungry. Always trying to get rich. Always wanting to have the best, the most expensive, —to be as rich as the neighbors, etc.

*Loving the things of the world—-to be famous, loving attention, wanting to have the leading top position.

*Having much desire to wear the latest fashion, to wear the best —most expensive, spend money of costly jewelry.

*Dressing modestly—not showing off our bodies sexually to get attention.

As Christians we should live modestly—meaning “in the middle”—not too poor—-not too rich. Having what we need, having a few extras.

“Having things” should not the goal of our life.

5031. Verse 2 Paul said—Do not be conformed to the world—-but be t____________________ meaning “changed”—–by your mind being made new (thinking like God wants you to think)

—-so that you can prove or show that which is good—–and acceptable—-and perfect—-the will of God.

Verse 3 Paul said—Do not think of yourself as higher than you should.

(We all need to have self confidence, a feeling of self worth—-but not so much that we think we are better than other people).

5032. Paul said—We should be s_______________ and serious in our thinking.

5033. “God hath dealt (given) to every man the _______________ of faith”

This seems to mean—God has given to everyone faith and ability (able, talent, skill) to serve.

Some may have more ability and be able to take leadership over others. Some may have less ability to lead, but have other abilities to do other kinds of things.

5034. Verse 4 We have many “m________________” in one body. Not all “members” have the same office or place in God’s service.

Verse 5 There are many of us believers —but we are “one body” in Christ. We are all connected to each other.

Verse 6 We have different skills and gifts (able to do different things)—–this is according to God’s grace given to us.

5035. Some can give p_________________—so let them give prophecy according to their faith and ability.

5036.Verse 6 Some m_________________—so let them minister and serve.
Some t________________—so let them teach.

5037. Verse 7 Some preach–ex____________—so let them do so—with simple words that can be understood.

5038. Some can r______________ or lead—so let them rule or lead—but they should do it with careful attention —and with mercy —and with a cheerful happy way.
