Romans Chapter 11 Verses 1-24
This section of Romans is hard to write into questions. I usually follow the King James Version—but it is more difficult to understand for this section. So, I have used my own words and the New Living Bible. It was hard to make questions of it—so most of it is just explanations.)
5003. Verse 1 Paul asked—Did God cast away –throw away—his people the Hebrews/Jews? No!
Paul said: ”I am also an I________________. ( from Israel).
I also am descended from Abraham. I am of the tribe of B___________________.
Verse 2 God has not cast away his people. Don’t you know what the scriptures say about Elias (Elijah)? How he prayed to God against the people of Israel.
5004. Verse 3 He said: They have killed your p__________________. They have knocked down your ________________. I alone—am the only one true to you. They want to ____________ me.
5005. Verse 4 God answered him—I have saved _________________(how many) Jewish men who have not bowed down to the idol _______________.
5006. Verse 5 At this time—there is a ___________________ (small number) that are saved and kept by my grace.
5007. Verse 6 And if it is by g____________—-then it is not because of their w________________.
5008. If salvation is of w______________—what we do—then it is not of g_________________.
Verse 7 Israel—the people of Israel—have not been able to get God’s favor that they were working for.
(The Jews were trusting in their sacrifices and their following the commandments. They were also trusting that they were of the family of Abraham.)
Yet– God was offering them his grace—for forgiveness of sin—through Jesus.
5009. Most of them did not understand this. Only a few understood that God’s grace and forgiveness came through J_______________.
They rest of the Jews were blinded to that understanding.
5010. Verse 8 The scriptures say—that God gave them the spirit of
____________________ —-___________ that could not see and _____________ that could not hear.
5011. Verse 9 David said: “ Let their _________________ be a snare (trap) and a s___________________________.
(table–their blessings of having the commandments and words of God and the writings of Moses.)
5012. Verse 10 Let their eyes be __________________________, that they may not see.
5013. Verse 11 The Jews have “stumbled—fallen over” the belief in Jesus as God’s son. Has God thrown them away—-No!
But their stumbling over believing in Jesus has allowed the gospel message to go to the G_____________________. The Gentiles are believing in Jesus. This should make the Jews j___________________ (because the Gentiles are becoming the Sons of God.)
Verse 12 If the Jews falling and stumbling has given spiritual riches to the world—how much more will the full riches —-be to the Jews — if they would believe.
5014. Verse 13 Paul said: I speak to you Gentiles. I am the _____________________ to the Gentiles. (The Holy Spirit spoke to Paul about going to the Gentiles to preach.)
Verse 14 I will try to make my own people–Jews—jealous—by preaching to you—-hoping that some will be saved.
Verse 15 If the “casting away of the Jews” allows the world to hear the gospel—then what a better thing it would be—- if the Jews would receive the gospel.
Verse 16 If the first of the fruit is holy—all of it will be holy,
If the root is holy—the branches will be holy.
Verse 17 If some of the branches of the true olive tree (Jews) are broken off—-and you being a wild olive tree (Gentiles) —-are grafted into the true olive tree—then you will grow from the root of the true olive tree—and you will be as the true olive tree. If the root is holy—the branches will be holy.
Verse 18 Do not boast (be proud) and speak against the branches that were cut off. (Gentiles—do not be proud and speak against the Jews for not believing.)
Remember—you are just the “branches” you are not the root.
5015. Verse 19,20,21 The true branches were broken off because of their
Un________________. You have been grafted in because of your f_______________. Do not boast—have fear and respect.
If God did not spare (keep) the true branches because they did not believe—God will not spare you.
Verse 22 God is both full of goodness and also severity (strict—holy standards) Be careful—do not get proud and think yourself better than the Jews.
5016. Verse 23 If the Jews stop their unbelief—and start believing—they will be g________________ in again.
5017. Verse 24 You G________________—were of a wild olive tree—you were grafted into the natural olive tree.
How much more will the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree—if they believe.
