Romans            Chapter 9 Verses 1-18

4967. Verse 1 Paul is saying that —in his mind—-what he is thinking—the Holy Spirit is a w________________ to his thoughts.

4968. Verse 2 Paul says he has great (or much) h___________________ and s_____________________ in his heart.

4969. Verse 3 Paul says that he could wish that he was cursed from C_______________, for the sake or salvation —of his kinsmen (his Jewish people).

4970. Verse 4 The I_______________________ (people of Israel). These people were given the law. The promises of God.

4971. Verse 5 Their “fathers”—-the men before them—-their people—the Jews—These are the people God chose his Son to be born into.
Christ came. He is over all. God has blessed him forever.

Verse 6 and 7 Explains: Not all of Abraham’s children are the “children of promise”. Abraham had other children—-other than Isaac.

After Sarah died—Abraham married Keturah –see Genesis Chp. 25 —-she had 6 children with Abraham.

The promises God made to Abraham were to be fulfilled in Isaac and Isaac’s sons after him.

Verse 8 The other children of Abraham—were “children of his flesh” but they were not the “children of the promise God made”.

4972. Verse 9 The Lord promised that S____________ would have a son.

4973. Verse 10-13 Rebecca, Isaac’s wife, had twins. Before they were born—God said the o _____________ one will serve the
y____________________ one. This shows that God makes the choice. God makes the plan.

4974. Verse 14-16 Is God being unrighteous? No !

God said to Moses—” I will have m__________________ on whom I w_______________. I will show mercy and compassion
on whom I w______________.

(In other words, God is God. He can choose to do as He wishes.
He can choose whom He will. He can choose to bless whom He will.)

4975. Verse 17-18 God said to Pharaoh—king of Egypt—I have raised you up so that I may show my p________________, and that my n____________________ will be spoken through all the e_________________.

So–God has mercy on whom he will. He makes some have a hard heart that they will not listen.

(We are used to thinking that we all have a free will and we can choose. We can obey God or not.

There is that verse about predestination—Romans 8:29
About God “foreknowing”. Knowing before it happens.
Because God knows before it happens—he predestinates—or pre—-means before—- God decides before—chooses—-destines.

God knows ahead of time—who will choose to obey—and he
decides things about that person ahead of time—-before they have done it.)
