4770. Vs. 17 Abraham believed God. The God who could even
quicken the _____________. (quicken means bring to life.)

Abraham’s wife was in her 90’s —she was past the time of being able to have children. In a way—that part of her body could be thought of as dead. And Abraham was 100—he also was too old.

4771. Vs. 17 The King James Version says: He “called those things that were not–as though they were” What do you think this means? ____________________________________________

Remember–Abraham’s name was Abram at first. Then God changed his name to Abraham—meaning “father of many”—-but was Abraham the father of many at that time?

But he still called himself “Abraham”. I imagine that when people heard his name—they would ask—”How many children do you have?” Abraham would say “none“.

God did not give Abraham a son through his wife for another 25 years !

4776. Vs. 20 He did not stagger—(to walk like a man drunk) meaning he was not weak in his faith—he did not go back and forth —-having doubt and believing ——but he was strong and sure and stayed straight in his faith —he gave g____________ to God.

4777. Vs. 21 Abraham completely believed that what God had promised—-God was able to p______________ (do, make happen)

4778. Vs. 22 Because of his faith in God—God counted it as r_________________________.

4779. Vs. 23 -24 This is true for believers today—-same as it was for Abraham. Abraham—-believed in God—-and it was counted as righteous—-so it is the same for people today.

We believe — by faith—that Jesus died for our sins—and he was raised from the dead.
It is our f_________________ —not our works—-that brings us forgiveness and righteousness.

Vs. 25 It was Jesus who was offered as a “sacrifice” to die—in our place—and He was raised up from the dead—-for us to be made just and right before God.
It is written—”The soul that sinneth, it shall die.” Ezekiel 18:20

Any one who sins—-has to pay the penalty (punishment) of death.
That means eternal death—in hell.

But Jesus came to earth—to pay the death punishment for us.

Because He paid the death punishment—we do not have to die ourselves and go to hell. We can ask God to forgive us because Jesus paid it.

It is not automatic—-we have to ask Jesus for forgiveness.
