Acts Chapter 17 Vs. 16-34

4423. Vs. 16 Paul was waiting at Athens for Silas and Timothy to come.
What did he see that bothered him and disturbed his spirit?
_________________________________________________

4424. Paul began to talk to the _______________ in the synagogue
(Jewish church), and with _______________________________.

(He was trying to show them the truth about God. To the Jews, Paul was trying to show them from the scriptures that Jesus was the promised Messiah.

To the others in the market place, Paul tried to show them why worshipping idols was wrong.)

4425. Vs. 18 Some of the great thinkers of philosophy were two groups:___________________________ and the ___________________.

They said that Paul was preaching to them about a “strange” god.
They had not heard about Jesus. Paul also talked about Jesus’ coming alive from the dead—-this was strange to them, too.

4426. Vs. 19 They took Paul to the ______________________ (this was the highest court in Athens). They wanted Paul to explain to them about this new teaching and new religion.

4427. Vs. 20 -23 The men of Athens loved to talk about new ideas. Paul saw they had an altar with writing–To The Unknown God. It seems that the people of Athens, were afraid they missed some god and they did not want to be guilty of missing to worship some god. So they made an altar to the Unknown God.

Paul saw that, and said to them —I will tell you who this Unknown God is. Who was the Unknown God that Paul would tell them about? __________________________________________

4428. Vs. 24 He told them about the God who lived in _________________________ and who __________________ everything, —–the heavens, earth, man, and everything.

4429. Vs. 24-25 Paul said, The true God does not live in ________________________. He is not someone who you can make with your hands (like their idols). This God gave l________ to all and b________________ to all.

4430. Vs. 26 Paul said that people of every nation are made of one-blood.
What do you think that means? _________________________
_____________________________________________________

And that God decided the boundary for the nations—-and where they were to live.

4431. Vs. 27 That God wanted all people to seek after God. And that God was not far from anyone.

This means that when people look at the sky and the stars at night, and when they see the animals in nature—-they should know that there is a God who made all of this. And they should look for Him, and try to learn about Him.

Vs. 28 Paul said, In Him we _______________ and ________________________ and have our ________________.

4432. Vs.29 Paul said we are the _______________of God.

(“off-spring” means the children of a man and wife.)

We are the “off-spring”—children of God. We have been created by God. We are made in God’s image.
What does that mean? God’s image. Are we Gods?

We are not little ”gods”. Some religions teach that.

It means that we are like God in certain ways.

Just like children are like their parents in certain ways.

We can think, and reason.—like God. We can choose and decide what we will do—–like God.

We have feelings and emotions—happy, sad, angry,—like God.

We can love, hate,–we can forgive, or not—–like God.

Animals may have some of these things, but not all.

People are more than animals.

People have a “spirit” that connects us to God, that makes us want to worship God.

We have built into our nature and thinking— that there is something out there bigger, stronger, wiser that we are. We sense in our spirit —that there is a “God” out there.

We have a spirit that is different and separate from our brain-thinking. It is something in us that makes us feel, and know things—that are beyond what we can see.

People everywhere on earth—-worship some kind of “god”.

The “spirit” in man makes them want to do this.

Paul is trying to tell the people of Athens, —that the gods they worship—are not the true God.

Paul is trying to tell them of the true God.

Paul said, This God is not made of gold, or silver, or stone.

He does not dwell (live) in an image made by man.

4433. Vs. 30-31 Paul said, In times past, God w_____________ at the ignorance (not knowing) of men about God.

But now, God commands that all men everywhere must r__________________.

The day will come, when God will judge every person in the world—for his sin—or if he is righteous—(meaning his sins have been forgiven).

We are not righteous in ourselves. We have no righteousness of our own. All our “righteousness” is because we have believed in Jesus. He is our “righteousness”.

The person who will be judging them is the One God has chosen to be judge—-Jesus. God proved that He is righteous and worthy to be judge by raising Jesus from the dead.

4434. Vs. 32 When the men of Athens heard Paul speak of the resurrection (coming alive from the dead) —–they m____________________ Paul. (They did not think such a thing could happen.)

But some of the men said that they wanted to hear Paul again and hear what he would say.

4435. Vs. 33,34 Paul left the group.

Some people went with Paul because they b_________________ what Paul said.

Three of them were: _____________________, _____________________________, and ______________________________________. And there were others, too.
