Acts Chapter 14     Vs. 19-28     Chapter 15 Vs. 1-12

4259. Verse 19 Some Jews from nearby towns, came and talked to the people of Lycaonia—and got them upset and angry with Paul and Barnabas. They took Paul and did what to him?
___________________________________________________

(Think about this: These same people had just praised Paul and Barnabas —thinking they were “gods” because a man was healed.

They tried to make sacrifices to Paul and Barnabas like they were gods. Now, they are willing to join in trying to kill Paul.

How quickly they changed their thinking !!)

4260. Then they took him out of the city and left him because they thought he was ___________________.

4261. Verse 20 Some of the believers and disciples stood around Paul as he lay on the ground. Then what happened?
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
(Probably, the believers were standing around Paul and praying for him.)

4262. Verse. 21 Paul and Barnabas left and went to another city.
After that, they went back to some of the cities they had been to before, and visited them again.

Verse 22 They preached to all those again and encouraged them to keep on believing.
Verse 23 They ordained men to be leaders in each church group.
This means they chose men to be leaders. They said they should have authority to make decisions about the group. They prayed over them and helped them know how to be leaders.

Verse 24, 25.26 Paul and Barnabas move on to other cities.

Verse 27,28 Then they came back to Antioch and met with the believers. They told them all about their travel and what happened.

(KJV uses the word “disciples”—meaning those believers who followed Jesus’ teachings.)

Verse 28 The stayed there for a long time.

Chapter 15

4263. Verse 1 Some men came from Judea to Antioch and began teaching that the new believers—– must all be _____________________ like the law of Moses said—–or you can not be saved.

(These believers in Antioch and other cities were mostly Gentile people. Most of the Gentile men were not circumcised.

Circumcision is the cutting away of the foreskin of the penis. God told Abraham to circumcise all the men —both of his family and the servants. And that every male baby was to be circumcised at 8 days old.

This was a sign that they belonged to God. When other men saw that these men were circumcised— they knew that they were Jewish—and that they worshipped Jehovah God in heaven.

So, since the time of Abraham —Jewish men had been circumcised.

Later, when the law was given to Moses—God said that they were to circumcise all male babies at 8 days old.)

4264. Verse 2 Paul and Barnabas do not think it is right to demand that the Gentiles be circumcised to be Christians.

Salvation is by faith believing that by asking for forgiveness of sins—God forgives.

We do not have to do something—to get salvation. We do not work for it. We do not do certain acts or rituals to earn it. Forgiveness is a gift.

So, Paul and Barnabas are arguing with these men who are trying to teach that the Gentiles must be circumcised if they want salvation.

Finally, the men of Antioch tell Paul and Barnabas to go to
________________________ and talk to the elders (disciples)
and see what they say about it.

4265. Verse 3,4 Paul and Barnabas go through some cities on their way to Jerusalem. They preach to them.

Verse 4 They told the leaders at Jerusalem all about what happened. They told about the many Gentiles that believed.

Verse 5 They told about the argument about circumcision.

Some of the believers in Jerusalem were of the leader group of
P_____________________. They thought that the Gentiles
(should, should not) (which?) be circumcised.

4266. Vs. 7-9 There was much talking about it. Finally, Peter stood up to talk. He told how God send him to preach to the Gentile man and eat with him. He told how the believers there were baptized with the H_______________S_________________—-in the same way that happened to the Jewish believers in the upper room.

He said that God did not hold back the spirit from them because they were not circumcised.

So why should they (the leaders) say that the Gentiles must be circumcised.

God did not require it—why should they?

4267. Vs. 11 Write out this verse: We believe _______________

4268. Verse 12 Then the group was quiet. They listened to Paul and Barnabas tell about all the m_____________________ that happened when they preached to the Gentiles.
