(meaning Jewish men —because non-Jewish men were not circumcised)

—-these Jewish men were surprised that the Holy Spirit came upon these Gentile people.

(For hundreds of years, the Jewish people have separated themselves from the Gentile people.

God told them to be separated from them. God told them not to marry with them.

The reason—-was so that the Jewish people would not be influenced and tempted to worship the idol gods of the Gentiles. God wanted the Jewish people to stay true to Him.

As the years went by, this “separation” turned into a feeling of being “better than “ the Gentiles. The Jewish people looked down on the Gentiles.

That was not what God wanted. God did not “look down” on the Gentiles as though they were “less” than the Jews. But God did not want the Jews to worship the Gentiles idols.

God wanted the Jews to be telling the Gentiles about the true God in heaven.

But human nature—often is selfish and proud. The Jews began to think of themselves as “special” in God’s eyes.

So now, as the Jewish men see how the Holy Spirit has come down upon these Gentiles —-in the same way that the Holy Spirit came down on those Jews in the upper room—-they were surprised.

Verse 46 The Jewish men heard these Gentiles speak with
