Acts Chapter 8 Vs. 1-25

4112. Vs. 1 The King James Version says that Saul was “consenting” to Stephen’s death. This means he was in agreement that Stephen should die.

At that time “persecution”— doing bad, mean, hurtful things to someone—-was happening to believers. They were the “church” at that time.

Because of what was happening to them, many of the believers left Jerusalem. They went to other towns to get away from the hurtful things that were happening to believers.

The disciples stayed in Jerusalem.

Vs.2 Some of the believers took Stephen’s body and buried him.

Vs. 3 Saul, began to do hurtful things to the believers. He would go into their ____________________, He took men and women and took them to _______________________.

4113. Vs. 4 The believers that had left Jerusalem to go to other towns—were doing what? _______________________________

____________________________________________________

(So, now the news about Jesus is going out to many towns and not just staying in Jerusalem. God is using the “persecution” of the believers to take the news about Jesus to many towns.)

4114. Vs. 5 One of the disciples went to Samaria to preach. Which one? ___________________________

4115. Vs. 6 Did the people in Samaria listen to him? ________

4116. Vs. 7 What were some of the miracles that happened there when he was preaching? _________________________________

4117. Vs.9 There was a man there, named ______________.

He used witchcraft. The people of Samaria thought that he had special powers.

(Satan has power. Not as much as God’s power, but he has power. People who do witchcraft can do some amazing things.)

4118. Vs. 10 Because of the power of witchcraft, Simon was able to do things. The people thought that he did these things by God’s power. For a long time, the people had come to him for help.

Vs. 12 Then they heard Philip preaching about God and the name of Jesus, they were baptized and became followers of Jesus.

Vs. 13 Did Simon come to believe in Jesus? __________ Was he also baptized? _________

4119. Vs. 13 He followed Philip. He saw the miracles that happened when Philip prayed for people.

Vs. 14-24 The disciples in Jerusalem heard how things were going in Samaria. So they sent two disciples to Samaria. Who were they? ____________________ and _________________.

4120. Vs. 17 When they laid hands on believers and prayed for them, what happened? ___________________________________

__________________________________________________

( When the Holy Spirit came upon the believers in the upper room, they began to speak in other languages or “tongues”.

It seems that this is what was happening to the believers in Samaria. I say that because Simon was watching and of what he wanted Peter and John to do.)

4121. Vs. 18, 19 What did Simon offer to give Peter and John if he would give Simon the same “power” ? ______________________

4122. Vs. 20 What did Peter tell him? ___________________________________________________

___________________________________________________

______________________________________________________

4123. Vs. 21 What else did Peter tell him?

______________________________________________________

______________________________________________________

______________________________________________________

4124. Vs. 22 Peter told him to r_____________. And pray to God to f___________________ you.

4125. Vs. 23 Peter said that Simon was in the bond of _______________________. In other words, Simon was still under the influence and thoughts of his witchcraft.

Simon had power from witchcraft before —-because of Satan’s power in him. Simon liked having that power.

Peter and John and Philip show power also. But they do not say it is their own power. They say it is God’s power. They do not want people to look to them for power. They are telling people—what happens to you is because of God’s power doing it.

Simon had not yet understood the difference. Peter told him that he had to get his thinking changed. He had to see the “power” was not from Simon—-the power and glory was all to go to God—not to a man.

Vs. 24 Simon asks Peter to pray for him.

Vs. 25 After Peter and John preached for a time—they went back to Jerusalem—-and along the way—they preached in small towns.
