4016. Who is the letter/book written to? ___________________

(Bible teachers tell us that this letter/book was written by Luke—Luke was a follower of Jesus and he was a doctor/physician)

4021. Verse 5, 7 The disciples asked Jesus if –at this time—God would give back the rule of the Jewish land to the Jews. (Remember, Rome ruled over their land now.) But Jesus said, it was not for them to know _______________________________

_____________________________________________________.

(The Jewish people—even the disciples—-thought that the “Messiah” “Savior” that the Old Testament prophets said that God promised to come—–would be a man who would be a king.

He would win a war against the nations who ruled over the Jewish lands, and this king would make it possible for the Jewish people to live in their own land, and have their own king—like it was in the Old Testament times.

That was their idea of the Messiah. Today, that is still the idea that Jewish people have of the Messiah.

Never did the Jewish people think that their “Messiah”, “Savior” would be a “preacher, healer”. That he would die.

They thought at some time, Jesus would become this great king/warrior and save them from Rome. Then the Jewish people would have their land back.

To see Jesus as a preacher. teacher, healer, and to die was so surprising to them. They could not understand. Many could not believe—- because it did not fit their idea of what the Messiah was.

When Jesus died then came to life again—they saw that only God could do something like that.

They began to see Jesus differently. They still thought that he would free their people from Rome rule. That is why they asked him the question.

It took the disciples awhile to fully understand that Jesus’ coming the first time to earth—-was to die for people’s sins.

When Jesus comes to earth the second time—the Jewish people in Israel will be fighting a war with the nations around them—this will be the Battle of Armageddon —there will be such powerful weapons that Israel will begin to lose —-when they feel that they are about to go down—Jesus will come down to earth —and he will destroy all those other nations.

The people of Israel will see it is Jesus—the one they rejected before. They will know that he was and is the Messiah. Jesus will at that time become king of the world. He will rule over the whole world.
