3988. Then John goes into the tomb. When he sees the linen cloth wrapping—that made him ___________________ (that Jesus had risen from the dead.)

Psalm 16:10 saw that God’s Holy One will not see corruption–rot, decay—-his body will not rot and decay. Until this time, the disciples have not understood what Jesus tried to tell them—that he would rise up from the dead.

Different times, Jesus told them—after 3 days, the third day—Jesus tried to tell them that he would die, but after 3 days—-he would live again.

The disciples could never really believe that Jesus would die. So they never understood about the “3 days” either.

Now Peter and John see the linen cloth where the body was, but no body was in them. Now they remember Jesus’ words. Now they believe.

3992. Jesus tells her not to do what? _______________________

___________________________________________________

Jesus said the reason he did not want her to do this was because he had not yet shown himself to his Father in heaven.

Bible teachers think that reason Jesus said this —was because–

Mary probably would have touched him. It would have been usual for her to bow at his feet and touch his feet and ankles—maybe in her love of him—to hold on to him.

It was not that Jesus did not want to be touched. Later he told Thomas to touch him.

Jesus did not want Mary to hold on to him—fearing he would disappear be gone—just as he “disappeared” from the tomb.

Or she might hold on to him for a time because she loved him.

Jesus had somewhere he needed to go. He needed to leave.

He told her to go do what? ________________________________

Vs. 18 Mary told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had talked to her.
