St. John 13 Vs. 1-30

3833. Vs. 9-11 Peter said to Jesus to wash all of him. But Jesus said, if a person has washed himself, he does not need to be washed all over, just his feet. (This is because they wore sandals and the roads were dusty.)

Jesus then said, You are clean, but not all. Vs. 11 Because Jesus knew who would _____________________ him.

(This time Jesus was not talking about bodies being clean, but rather hearts being clean. The person who would betray him did not have a clean heart towards Jesus.)

3834. Vs. 12 After Jesus washed their feet, he asked them if they knew why he had washed their feet.

Vs. 14 Jesus said you call me Master, and I am, and I have washed your feet, and you should wash each others feet.

Vs. 16 A servant is not greater (or better) than his ____________.

Neither is the person who is “sent” —greater or better than the person who sent him.

In other words, Jesus was their leader, and he was willing to do a servants job. Jesus would be sending the disciples out into the world to preach and teach. They should not be thinking of themselves as greater or better than the people they were preaching to. They should be willing to do a servant’s job, if it helped people accept Jesus.

3835. Vs. 18 Jesus said, I have chosen each of you to follow me and learn from me. But one —-who has eaten bread with me has lifted up his hand against me. I am telling you now, so when you see it happen, you may believe in me.
