Chapter 4       Vs. 33-44

Vs.33 Jesus was in the Jewish church –called a synagogue. There was a man there who had demons in him.

The demons in the man—- made the man cry out with a loud voice. He said—Let us alone! What do we have to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth?

Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.”

(The demons in the man knew who Jesus was.

The Jewish people who had been listening to Jesus and watching what he did all this time—-were not sure who Jesus was.

The demons knew exactly who Jesus was and said so loudly.)

Jesus did not want demons telling who he was. Jesus wanted people to believe in him because they trusted Jesus and had faith in who he was. Jesus wanted people to believe the words he was teaching.

Vs. 35 Jesus told the demons to be quiet. Jesus told the demons to come out of the man.

This made the demons angry. As they went out of the man, they threw the man to the ground. But the man was not hurt.

Vs. 36 The people were surprised and looked in wonder at what they saw. They said to each other—what kind of person is Jesus that he can speak to demons and make them come out of a person?

Vs. 37 The people talked about this all over town. Word of what happened spread out all over the country.

Vs. 38. Jesus left the church and went to Simon Peter’s house.

Peter’s mother-in-law was very sick. He wanted Jesus to come heal her.

Jesus stood over her, he told the fever to leave. The woman got up and was well. She began to serve them (probably fixed some food and drink for them.)

Vs. 40 In the evening, many people brought sick people to Peter’s house, they wanted Jesus to heal them. He laid hands on them and healed everyone.

Vs.. 41 He made demons come out of people. When the demons came out of the people, they would cry out saying, “You are Christ, The Son of God.”

Jesus told the demons to be quiet—because they knew who he was.

Vs. 42 When the morning came, Jesus went out into the desert —probably to pray. But the people followed him, and stayed with him, they did not want him to leave their town.

Vs. 43 Jesus said to them I must preach about the kingdom of God to other towns, This is the reason I have been sent (to earth).

Vs. 44 He went to Galilee and preached in the church there.
