Jesus goes on to explain that just as the wind blows—-we cannot see it. We do not know where it comes from or where it goes. But we do know that the wind is blowing.

In a way, the spirit is like that. We can feel the “spirit” of God. s

We can feel the “presence” of God. We know when he is near, because we feel his spirit.

(Have you not sometimes “felt” that another person was near before you saw them? Or you felt that eyes were watching you–when you could not see them?)

Man has a spirit. It is man’s spirit that needs a new “birth

Because of man’s sin, his spirit broke connection and fellowship with God.

This broken connection to God means man’s spirit will die.

God told Adam, if you eat of the tree, you will die. After Adam disobeyed and ate of the tree—-his body began to slowly die—and his spirit would die because his connection/fellowship to God was now broken.

The Bible speaks of man as “dead in his sin”. The only way for the spirit to be made alive again, is for God to give it life—and to bring back fellowship with God again.
