A scribe was a man who wrote the scriptures into scrolls. He copied them. He wrote other kinds of papers too. The scribes were part of the group of the Jewish leaders.
Vs. 6, 7 What were the scribes thinking when Jesus told the man that his sins were forgiven?

2368. Vs. 15 Later this man had a big meal at his house. He had invited many of his friends to come. Many of them were tax collectors like him. Others were people who were not very religious.
Tax collectors were men who collected tax money from the Jews for the Romans who ruled over them. The Jews hated it that the Romans ruled over them. They hated the men who worked for the Romans.
Also, the men who collected taxes often were not honest. They made people pay for than they really owed. Then the tax collector kept the money for himself. People knew this and so they had more reason to hate them.
Vs. 16 The Jewish leaders who thought they were more holy than other people. They
criticized Jesus and said he ate with ______________________________________________________________________
2369. Vs. 17 Jesus told the leaders. People who are whole/well do not need a

Jesus asked them if people with the bridegroom do not eat when they are with him.
Of course, not. They are all eating and having a good time. After the bridegroom leaves is when they can “fast”.
Jesus is saying he is the “bridegroom”. While he is here, his disciples eat with him and talk. Later, when Jesus “goes away into heaven” they can fast.
