Matthew Chapter 13 Vs. 34-58

2068. Vs. 34

Jesus said he would speak to them in _____________________________ or stories.

Telling a story to explain something is an easy way to learn and understand.

2069. Vs. 36 The disciples came to Jesus and wanted him to explain the story about what?

______________________________________________________________________

2070. Vs. 37,38 Jesus answered. The person sowing (planting) the good seed of wheat is the

____________________________ The field is the ___________________. The “good seed” are ________________________________________________ The tares are the children of ___________________________________.

2071. Vs. 39 The enemy who sowed the tares is _______________________ The harvest is the end ____________________________. The reapers (people who gather in the harvest) are the ______________________________.

2072. Vs. 40 The angels will gather in the _________________ and they are __________________________. This is how it will be in the end of the world.

2073. Vs. 41 The Son of Man will send out ________________________, and they will gather ______________________________________________________

2074. Vs. 42 And they will throw them into a ___________________________________________________ There will be _______________________________________________________________

2075. Vs. 43 Then the righteous will _____________________________________ in the kingdom of the Father.

Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear these words.

2076. In this story Jesus is telling how the _______________________________ grow up together in the field.

2077. ___________________________ are a plant that looks a lot like wheat until the end of the harvest when the wheat heads are mature and you can see the difference.

The owner of the field said to let the plants grow and not to try to take out the tares for fear the wheat would be pulled out too. But when it came time to harvest it will be easy to see which is the tares and which is the wheat.

And so Jesus is saying that in this world people both righteous and sinners will live together until the end of time. When God decides that it is the end of this world and time He will send out his angels to bring in the righteous (wheat) and they will gather all the sinners (tares) together. The sinners will be thrown into the fire of hell to burn. The righteous will go with Jesus to heaven and shine like the sun.

All who can hear these words need to give attention to it and do what is right.

2078. Vs. 44 Another story: A man was walking through a field and he found ____________________________________ in the field that was worth a lot of money. He _____________________ it. Then he went and asked about the field. The price was high and more money than he had. So he _______________________________________________ and then he bought the field.

What Jesus is telling in this story is that Jesus and heaven are worth us giving everything we have in order to get Jesus and heaven.

2079. Vs. 45,46 This story is like the other one. A man finds a _________________________________________________. He sold all that he had so he could buy this one pearl because the value of the pearl was worth even more that what he paid for it.

Again, Jesus is saying that he is like that pearl. Jesus is worth more than all we have.

Getting Jesus/heaven is worth giving up all we have.

2080. Vs. 47-50 This story tells of a _____________ that is put into the sea to catch _______________. All kinds of fish come into the net. The men pull in the net, and they keep_____________________ that are good for eating, and the throw away _____________________________ .

Jesus said this is like the end of time when the angels gather in all the people. The righteous people are separated from the wicked, evil, non-righteous.

2081. The non-righteous are thrown ________________________ where there_______________________________________________.

Vs. 51 Jesus asks the disciples if they understand the stories. They say , Yes.

Vs. 52 Jesus said every teacher of religious law who has come to believe in the “kingdom of heaven” will teach things of truth from the old and from the new.

Most of the teachers the disciples had were teaching the old from the Old Testament.

But now Jesus was here and he was teaching them new things they had never heard before.

2082. Vs. 53, 54 Then Jesus went to his home town area. He taught in the Jewish churches. The people who heard him were surprised at his teaching. He spoke with __________________________________________________________________ They wondered how was it that he had such power and wisdom?

2083. Vs. 55, 56 They knew who Jesus was. They knew his family. They said is not his ____________________ Mary? And his brothers ________________, _____________________, _____________________, ____________________ And his __________________________ they live here too.

Vs. 57 Even though they had just said he spoke with wisdom and power they were upset by this—–because they thought of Jesus as one of the neighborhood boys they did not want to believe he was anything more. So they refused to believe that Jesus was God’s Son. To them he was just one of the boys of the neighborhood.

Some church groups have not wanted to believe that Jesus’ mother had other children. These verses 55,56 say that he did have brothers and sisters.

However, his brothers’ and sisters’ father was Joseph. Jesus father was the Holy Spirit.

2084. Vs. 57 Jesus said to them A prophet ________________________________________________________ In other words, when a person becomes famous, or honored, or of a high office—–it is hard for the hometown people to feel honor for someone they think of as the hometown kid.

2085. Vs. 58 Jesus could not do many miracles or healings there because ____________________________________________________________
