1066. Vs. 11 and 12 Jesus speaks of the people of Abraham or the people of Israel–the Jews. So many of them did not accept Jesus or believe in him. Jesus said that people from the east and west would become the children of Abraham. Jesus was saying that Gentiles (non-Jews) would become believers and children of God. But the natural children of Abraham who should be God’s children but who would not believe in Jesus would end up in a place where there was weeping and gnashing of teeth.

A man wanted to follow Jesus. Jesus tried to make the man understand that following Jesus would not be easy. What did Jesus tell him? ______________________________

Jesus was not against taking care of a parent’s burial. But he was trying to show the man that if a person made a choice to follow Jesus, he would have to give up many things—even family things. When Jesus said, “Let the dead, bury their dead.” Jesus was saying, “Let those who are spiritually dead, spend their time to bury the dead. But those who are spiritually alive let them use their time for more important things.”
We know that missionaries have to give up many things to go preach to other people.
They have to leave their homes. Leave their home land. Leave parents and relatives. Leave safety and a good life. Often times their children have to go to a school that is away from where the parents are. So they do not get to be with their children.
People who follow Jesus sometimes have to give up important things. Jesus wanted those people to understand that following him would not be easy.
