Lesson #36— Parables of Jesus—The Lost Sheep, Lost Coin

Parables of Jesus—

The Parable of the Lost Sheep and Lost Coin By Joyce Webb 2008

A parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning.

Jesus told stories so people could understand things about heaven.

Parable of the Lost Sheep

Matthew 18:11-14 Luke 15:3-7

Jesus told this story:

A man had 100 sheep. One of them got lost.

The man left the 99 sheep and went hunting over the fields and mountains trying to find the one that was lost.

When he found the sheep, he put it on his shoulders and brought it home. Then he called in his friends and told them, “Come be happy with me, I have found the lost sheep.”

Jesus said that this is the way the Father in heaven feels about people.

That there is joy in heaven over the one sinner who turns from his sin and comes to God.

God is more happy about the one lost sheep being found than He is about the 99 who did not get lost. verse 13

It is God’s will that not one person be lost.

Parable of the Lost Coin

Joyce Webb 2008

Luke 15:8-10

A woman had 10 pieces of silver. She lost one.

She lit a candle and she looked and looked in the house. She swept the floor. She looked until she found the lost coin.

When she found the coin, she called in her neighbors t o have them be happy with her that she found the coin.

Jesus said that in heaven the angels rejoice (are happy and sing praises) over one sinner who turns from his sin and turns to God.
