Book #4—-Romans Chp. 6

Romans

Chapter 6     Verse 1 -11

Should we going on sinning so we can show God’s grace ?

No we should not! We are now people filled with God’s Spirit—we are dead to sin. We do not live in sin any more.

When we were baptized in water—when we went down under the water—it was like being buried with Christ—Christ was buried in a grave/tomb– when we came up out of the water, it was like coming up out of the grave. The sin and the life we lived before are left behind—we raise up a new person in Christ.

Now we walk in a new life with God’s Spirit.

If we —in baptism—shared in Christ’ death—then we share in His resurrected life—a new life showing the glory of God.

Our old sinful life is crucified with Christ–so that our old sinful self is destroyed (ended)—no more are we to be servants to sin.

A person who dies can not sin.

So we die to our old sinful ways, we believe that we will live with Christ. Christ raised from the dead. He will never die again. Death has no power over Christ.

Christ died for sin one time. Now He lives again unto God and with God.

So also we think of ourselves as dead to sin—but we are alive unto God—through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans Chapter 6 Verse 12 -14

Do not let sin control you. Do not obey the lust (desire, wants) of sin.

Do not give your body unto sin, but give your body unto God.

You are alive from the death of sin—your body now is to be used for righteousness and God.

Sin is not to have control over you. You are not under the law, but under grace.

(Law brings blame and guilt because we fail and have sinned. Grace forgives and covers.)

Romans Chapter 6 Verse 15

Should we sin and say “God will give us grace and forgive.” No!

That is not the way to feel.

(We should not think of God’s grace and forgiveness lightly. We should be thankful for it and have great respect and honor for it. We should not think of it as so easy to be used like a broom—sin and sweep it away. The forgiveness we have in Jesus cost Jesus much suffering—we need to respect it. His grace is there for us. We should never feel too sinful to come to Him. But we should not think so lightly of it that we just plan to sin and plan to ask for forgiveness. )

Romans Chapter 6 Verse 16

You should know that the person you give yourself to —will be the person you will obey—-sin and death, or righteousness and life.

(The more you give yourself to something—the more that thing will control you.

The more you give yourself to sin—the more sin will control you.

The more you give yourself to obeying God’s Spirit—the more the Holy Spirit will control you.)

Romans Chapter 6 Verse 17 -18

Before you served sin and were servants of sin, but now you have obeyed with all your heart the things we have been teaching you. Thank God!

You have been made free from sin, because you have now decided to be servants of righteousness.

Romans Chapter 6 Verse 19 -23

I, (Paul) am trying to explain and warn you—because I know how we are as humans and the weakness that we have as a person. Before you gave yourself to sin—-you gave your body to living unclean and doing sin—-so now you need to give yourself to living right and holy.

When you were servants of sin, you were free of righteousness. You did not think about righteousness.

The things you did before—you are ashamed of them now. Was there any profit or good that came from that life of sin? The end of sin is death.

Now you are made free from sin, you now serve God. You will have profit—or like a tree, you will have “fruit” unto holy things. In the end you will have everlasting life.

The wages (payment) for sin is death. The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
