Book #4—-Romans Chapter 14

Romans Made Easy

Chapter 14

Verse 1

If you are with a Christian that is weak in faith, accept them.

Do not argue with them about what is right and wrong.

(Paul begins talking about some of the things these believers have been having arguments about—-eating meat, drinking wine, and what day to worship—Saturday or Sunday.)

Verse 2

One person may believe that he can eat all things (including meat) and another person may believe that it is best to eat only vegetables and plants.

Verse 3

If a person eats meat, he should not judge a person who eats only plants.

If a person eats only plants, he should not judge a person who eats meat.

God accepts both people.

Verse 4

Who are you to judge another man’s servant?

His master is the one who should decide if his servant is doing right or wrong.

(Paul is speaking of the “Master” as the Lord. He is master of us all.)

The Lord will judge us. He will tell us if we are right or wrong. He will teach us what is the right thing to do.

Verse 5

Some people think we should worship on a certain day of the week. Other people think we should worship on a different day.

Some think it does not matter which day you use for a worship day.

Let every one decide for himself—–what day he wants to worship on.

Verse 6

What ever day you worship—– you are doing it as unto the Lord.

What ever you eat—–you give God thanks for it.

Verse 7

No one lives to himself alone. No one dies to himself alone.

Verse 8

If we live—–we live for the Lord, and if we die—-we are the Lord’s.

Verse 9

Jesus died and was raised up again—–so that we can belong to the Lord—-He is our Lord—-whether we are living or if we die.

Verse 10

Why argue with your brother in Christ? Why be angry or upset with your brother in Christ?

We will all stand before Christ someday,—–He will judge us.

Verse 11

It is written in the scriptures: “As I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow to me,—-every tongue will confess to God.” Isaiah 45: 23

Verse 12

Every one—-will answer to God for all the things he has done.

Verse 13

Let us stop judging others.

Let us not put a “block” in the way—- that will make someone fall—- or have a problem in following the Lord and being a believer.

Verse 14

I know, and feel sure by the Lord Jesus, —-that there is nothing that is by itself an unclean food.

If someone thinks that for him it is not clean to eat, —-then he should not eat it.

Verse 15

If you are with someone and they think a certain food is not clean or right to eat,—–then you should show love for them, show respect for them—-and do not eat that thing when you are with them.

Do not hurt this man‘s faith,—— by eating a food that he thinks is not right to eat.

Verse 16

In this way, you have the respect of people—–because you have a spirit of love and kindness.

They will show respect to you and what you believe.

(You may be right in what you believe,—but you do not have to have your way in this thing.)

Verse 17

The kingdom of God and the Christian way—–is not just about eating meat and drink—-it is about being right with God, having your sins forgiven—–having peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Verse 18

If you keep a spirit of love about these things—-you will please God and other people will be glad, too.

Verse 19

Let us do things that make for peace. Let us try to “build up” each other—-encourage each other—-not tear down.

Verse 20

Do not destroy the work of God and the group of believers over eating meat.

All foods are acceptable.——but if a man thinks it is wrong to eat it, then he should not do it.

Verse 21

It is not good to eat meat, or drink wine, or eat anything, —-if it will hurt your brother and weaken his faith.

Verse 22

Do you have faith about eating and drinking these things? Then do it when you are alone, or with others who believe the same.

If you think you are allowed to eat or drink it, then do not feel bad or guilty.

Verse 24

The person who thinks it is wrong, should not do it. It will bother his mind and conscience, because he does not eat in faith.

What ever you do that is not of faith, is sin.
